Wendell Carter Jr for a point guard
WCJ for Micic or Tre Mann. Nick Richards included.
Hornets need a stretch big to complement Mark Williams.
Magic need a point guard.
Any compatibilities between the 2 teams?

Re: Wendell Carter Jr for a point guard
I don’t think WCJ holds much value.. But I think Richards has more value than either guard involved here. Orlando would be owed a good amount more.
And they’ll likely be aiming a lot higher in free agency/trade. (Hopefully they make a move this summer with how good the kids have looked)
But I hope for Charlotte and Mann that he can keep this play up and it keeps having a positive impact. And if he does, the OP becomes an obvious nonstarter for Charlotte..

Richards, Micic, and 2nds could make sense if Orlando is interested. Otherwise if this is a general PG for WCJ thread, does Ayo move the needle enough?
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I have the Magic targeting Tyus Jones. He'd be better than either Tre Mann or Micic. But I don't think Tyus Jones will be worth his contract.
Micic or Mann could potentially start on a very small contract. And I figure Nick Richards gives the Magic some rim protection which may be a priority over stretch big.

The best 2nd rounder the Hornets have is 2027 Blazers. The next best one is 2024 Rockets.

wcj may not have much value...but this is a case of more value to magic..i think they hold wcj over this..think they would look to add to wcj for upgrade not split him up

Re: Wendell Carter Jr for a point guard
i dont think the fit or value is there for the Magic. Nick Richards is a back up and they already have Mo Wagner, so there really isnt much playing time available for him. Tre/Micic have a lot to prove for me to believe they can fill the starting PG role on a good team.
The Magic have 40+ mill in capsace and there are PGs available in FA that are a lot more proven than Mann/Micic. So to me this trade doesnt make much sense ATM.

Re: Wendell Carter Jr for a point guard
Orlando has so many guards, this seems like a bad use of resources. They should make a package for a better player if they want to solve their issues at that position, or just wait for Suggs and Black to develop more.

Micic or Tre Mann don't have the value you think they do. Maybe by season's end they could but as of right now they are likely viewed still as a 2nd round value flier(Mann) and a slightly negative contract(Micic).
Orlando has the assets and cap space to aim higher here.

Re: Wendell Carter Jr for a point guard
I don't see anyway Mo Wagner can consistently play a starter's minutes without fouling out. Also, the combination of WCJ and Wagner off the bench are a lot for the other team to deal with. Sometimes weakening a position of strength in the name of balance doesn't work out. If I'm the Magic, there needs to be a better PG coming back for me to consider this.

The Magic drafted a PG 6th overall last year.

Re: Wendell Carter Jr for a point guard
Just adding more mediocre PGs to the pile doesn't make sense for ORL, who is well positioned for a bigger score. They've got a ton of cap, young prospects on rookie or team-friendly deals, all of their picks + plus at least one extra frp. Giving up WCJ is not a small thing, but makes sense for a significant upgrade in the backcourt.

yes, but he needs more time developing and why waste a good year right now. if they can either get a good stop-gap one or part of a bigger play for a really good one, why not shake the trees and see what falls out

Re: Wendell Carter Jr for a point guard
What (if anything) is the Magic willing to add in a potential Marcus Smart for WCJ trade?

I’d say nothing because I don’t think Smart fits at all what we need at PG. We need a more offensive minded PG then him and a much better shooter.

What would it take to swap Brogdon with WCJ?

Just get Tyus Jones on a short-term deal or trade a couple seconds for Brogdon.

Do you think our FO keeps WCJ in mind as a cheap backup plan in case the Claxton operation fails?

I do think we might have some interest, but it would likely have to be part of a bigger deal with Orlando landing a center upgrade and needing to spin off WCJ for an asset. Maybe if Orlando has a deal done with Claxton in FA but needs to clear some money then we can take on the whole contract into a DPE and send a pick.

They have more than enough cap space for Claxton
