The previous 4 seasons he missed 4 total games and even this year he didn't miss half the games. This was a really dumb decision. Jones is miles better than Jacobs.
Miles better is a bit much. I'd put them in the same tier of RB. JJ is younger so there's that but there is a bit of an unknown with him comming into a new team/scheme.

All and all I get they can get out of the deal after 1 year without much of an issue but really if they just didn't feel good about paying Jones I'd have preferred they just poney up the guarenteed cash over 3 years for Saquan

Jones has averaged 5 yards per carry in his career. Jacobs' career best is 4.9. Two of his 5 years he's averaged under 4 ypc and one year he was at 4. He's not a very good player.

It's not like Jacobs is always the picture of health either.

In fairness to Jacobs, he had his best year when Carr was throwing to Adams and Waller to help unstack the box.

All of the other years it was either Carr throwing to garbage WRs, or garbage QBs throwing to Adams.

Everything else aside (which I know is a lot lol) this is the point I agreed with Rodgers the most

I'll be curious to see what Jones gets on the open market. He was due 11-12 million so it seems GB wanted to pay 5-6 million this year. How much does he beat that by on the open market?
Coach Drew: "Milwaukee has always been a team that I have been intrigued by. When we played them, they were a tough team for us to play. Although we did beat them all four times"

Bottom line is Jones had a $17.5 million cap hit and it doesn't sound like he was interested in reducing it. I don't blame him, he'll go on and get another nice pay day somewhere else.

But the Packers did well for themselves by getting a recent rushing champ who's still only 26 years old, and they didn't have to commit to him beyond one season. Jacobs is going to have the best situation of his career running at five and six man fronts all season long.

The Packers can take his eventual replacement in April and have three years of cheap-ass RB production from 2025-2027.

So you're expecting a superbowl next year? I guess i'm just a year or two off from putting those expectations onto the team.
The reality is the next 2 years will probably be the best team Jordan Love will ever have from a pure talent perspective before all these young guys need to be paid. So yes it should be looked at as right now.

OT but I'm watching my newly arrived copy of The Abyss in 4K UHD, and check out this dude's sick ass jacket.

80's were a dope decade for letterman jackets in the NFC North.

*edit, NFC Central.

I'd still bet on a one year deal because of the $6 million roster bonus, provided they take a running back next month.

The cap hit is less than $2 million more if he stays. If he stays will likely be based partly on how he looks next season.

Pretty sure he took the same paycut last year.

I don't blame him for turning it down, but I don't blame Gute for asking, either.

That's where I'm at as well, it was just time for both sides to move on. From Jones perspective this is probably his last chance to get one more big payday, I don't blame him for taking it. Don't blame the Packers either for wanting to go younger at a position where players rarely age gracefully.

Atleast there's a long track record of rookie RBs having big impacts, excited to see who they draft.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder whether Jones was just going to be too expensive. We keep talking about how much better and more dynamic the offense is when he plays, and he was obviously great at the end of the season. Well, the rest of the NFL saw that too, and they also can look at his career touches just as easily as we can and see that he doesn't have much mileage for his age. I bet his agent found out that he can earn a lot on the open market and it was too rich for Gute's taste.

That said, you could still argue that they should have paid him, but I think several of us are going to feel a little better about it once we see his next contract.
Wut we've got here is... faaailure... to communakate.

1 year, $7 million deal for Jones to the Vikings. Unreal. Would have been so damn nice to have him in GB for one more year at $7 million to split carries with Jacobs. My guess is a.) he wanted to start, b.) he wanted to stick it to the Packers for moving on from him after taking pay cuts in the past for our team. I do think its **** how we handled this once again. Rodgers, DaVante, and now Aaron Jones. This front office is really not good at player relations whatsoever.

So, 1 year, $7M for Jones or 1 year, $14.8M for Jacobs?

Well had they kept Jones it would have been a $17.5 million cap hit. With his release the Packers cleared $5.2 million.

Jacobs cap hit this season is only $5.3 million.
