Re: The Gradey Dick Thread Part 3
Over the last two games ive confirmed a suspicion
Grady has crazy elite ball iq and vision
Take note of how many uncontested weak side rebounds he gets
Hes showing a wayne gretzky like knack for knowing where the ball/play will be/materialize 3 seconds in advance
Factoring in his high iq, measurements, curry-smooth shot and lowkey/possibly elite athleticism my eyes are opening up to just how high his ceiling is
Like im biased to the point of being blatantly racist by how hesitant i am to believe my eyes— i think this kid might be just below the absolute elite in terms of nba level athleticism
Straight up, if he was black I’d be screaming it from the rooftops, but for now I’m reserving judgment until he fills out and strong enough to absorb contact
Long point short, this kid is checking every box. My eyes tell me his realistic ceiling is top of the food chain elite
Ps: sorry if my opinion is offensive, just being real. What my eyes and gut are telling me is that grady is as much of a physical unicorn as previous caucasian nba players like robert swift (literally can’t think of another name).

Re: The Gradey Dick Thread Part 3
So many people were mad we didn't take scrubs like Bufkin or Whitmore with our pick, or that a scrub like Walker was off the board when we picked (as if Masai would waste a pick on him). Masai is in his own league when it comes to the draft. People need to stop doubting him. I thought we learned that after the 2021 draft.

The only reason why I don’t think he’s a core player is because I don’t see how we can ever be a good to great defensive team with RJ at the 3.
Especially if Dick is our future 2. It puts too much of a burden on Scottie and our 5.
He's shown flashes of being a reliable defender in the past. The defensive upside is definitely there. Hopefully the Raps development staff can maximize it.

I’m not so sure. His feet are even slower than Scottie on the perimeter. You can’t teach quick feet and lateral quickness.
He can be average or a solid team defender but that isn’t good enough. The starting line up will eventually need a defensive specialist on wings so when we eventually become a playoff caliber team.
Asking Scottie to guard the best wings and steer the reigns on offence is too much a burden on him. Plus it takes away what he’s best at which is help side defence.

He’s a 6th or 7th man on a good team in my book. Like…I love how he plays aggressively and all that…and love that he’s Canadian, but let’s be honest the Knicks wouldn’t have let him go if he didn’t have some decent flaws.
Slow footed defence, what I’d call poor court/team awareness at times, and inconsistent shooting.
Again, not trying to hate, just how I see him being best placed for us as a winning team.

Never understood immediately hating on a prospect we draft and not giving them a chance to develop or even play one game. Same thing with your take on Bufkin, Whitmore, Walker..just let these kids develop.

Gradey should start and be given more pick and roll opportunities. He has a great mid range shot that should be utilized more.

Dick got really good potential to be a scoring machine in today's game style. He's even have some nice feel around the basket base on some of his layup. Hope we can see the potential become true when he is a Raptors!

Let him keep building in the current role and minutes ramping up to the NBA schedule from the 35 or so college games.
Next seaon if move on from Brown and Trent, he can start. Work out and get stronger in the summer!

How shocking was that eh?
Who do we have if Dick goes 1 before?
Is it Cam? Keyonte?
I like both those players, so not a disaster IMO.

Probably would have been Bufkin. Like Dick, he was in for a second workout.

Aren't most of us racist in that sense? Especially against white American players. Obviously white Europeans (and Argentinians) have long since proven themselves.
I love the story where Larry Bird was apparently insulted when a white guy was sent out to guard him. Speaking of Larry, I did say on this board a year ago that Gradey had Larry-lite potential. Even early on, I could see Gradey consistently made an impact out there, and used his size well on both ends of the court.
And Larry turned 23 in his rookie season. Gradey turned 20. Just sayin'.

Re: The Gradey Dick Thread Part 3
The guy I once compared Gradey to as a "best possible outcome" comparison is Chris Mullin. I highly doubt that Gradey will be named to 4 All-NBA Teams over the course of his career, but aside from Mullin being a lefty, I see a bunch of similarities.
Both have games that are driven by their shooting, but then have the ability to take guys off the dribble and get to the hoop, or pull up for a mid-range jumper. Mullin was also an underrated passer. And on defence Mullin wasn't a great defender, but could be disruptive because he had quick hands, and good anticipation getting into passing lanes.

Cason Wallace is going to be very good I think. I'm not sure Masai passes on him.

I think our top list (for guys around 13) were
1) Cason
2) Gradey
3) Bufkin
Either way that 2023 draft is looking good so far. Lots of solid role players, maybe a few stars and a generational

Yup, looks like the Jrue comp is on track.
The Reggie Miller comp for Gradey is on track.
