This is probably the worst group of prospects I've scouted in my realgm history, lol. Of course, its the first year the Wizards commit to tanking.
The draft has maybe 20 1st rounders in it. It's legitimately missing a top 5. Sarr goes 6th in last year's draft.
Alex Sarr = Dereck Lively II with flashes of a jumper
Zaccharie Risacher = Otto Porter Jr. Long two-way 3 & D wing who may lack the aggressiveness to do more
Matas Buzelis = you want to see him shoot better to unlock his skillset. What position does he defend?
Nikola Topic = mystery of the draft. I don't buy the jumper so that dims his prospects a bit in my eyes. Teams will dare him to shoot until he proves otherwise. Still a young 6-7 guard with elite feel and a high skill level is potentially worth a look. I do like his aggressiveness/recklessness in attacking the basket. Arguably a prospect than Josh Giddey.
Reed Sheppard = can he run the point? His value takes a hit being an SG. Not a guy that strings together moves or shows creativity. Everything is functional and advanced level decision making. Good straight line speed and excellent shooter. Will be targeted on ball but will be elite off ball defensively. Likely will need an adjustment period. Fred VanVleet like?
Rob Dillingham = He's the only guy other than Sarr that will pop on screen. Sarr for his athleticism and Rob with his advanced Jamal Crawford+ kit already pre-installed. Rob's feel for the game and scoring instincts are elite but he's also excellent at leveraging the defense's attention towards him to find the open man. He's probably my favorite prospect in the draft. His main concern is getting stronger so he isn't a total sieve defensively.
Donovan Clingan = Walker Kessler ish. Ivica Zubac are the type of names I'd throw out. He's considered a top 5 pick in some corners of the net. Yikes! Questionable hands. Slow change of direction. Bad ft shooter. Not my cup of tea as a prospect.
Dalton Knecht = Corey Kispert the true SF version. Good frame. Solid skill level = more than a 2-dribble guy. Can operate in P&Rs.
Cody Williams = You wonder how much injury played into his late season struggles. Skillset is a bit raw but he fit the 3&D role well for Colorado for the bulk of the season. Long limbed but smooth he does flash some Jalen Williams like traits athletically. Very much a projection on what he could become. Really could use another year to expand his role offensively.
Isaiah Collier = erratic decision maker with a high skill level who gives me Kevin Porter Jr vibes. May slip enough to where he looks like a steal. Not a PG IMO bit athletic enough to create mismatches with his speed and frame.
JaKobe Walter = Vassell is probably his high end. Not smooth or polished on the ball. Another guy that needed another year.
Ron Holland = i see an unpolished skillset combined with wild decision making going beyond what he can do. Michael Pietrus comes to mind. You pray he becomes Josh Howard before his injury if he puts the work in. Can dribble a little. Good athlete, more of a 2/3 than a 3/4 based on his size.
Stephon Castle = Troy Brown Jr with a motor and a bigger frame. A do it all master of nothing. Another guy where his shooting development makes or brakes him. Does not have elite feel as a PG but is functional. Does not have the quick processor of Anthony Black. Dyson Daniels?
Jared McCain = Best 3 pt shooter in the draft.
Tristan de Silva = 2nd coming of Kyle Kuzma
Zach Edey = will be very productive but he got away with not moving his feet defensively in college to avoid fouls because he was so vital offensively. Will not have that luxury in the pros. Will get benched if he does that in the league.
Tyler Kolek, Carlton Carrington & DaRon Holmes are guys I like later in the draft.
Tidjane Salaun ?? Am I the only one that likes this guy? Could have the highest upside in this draft IMO. Definitely strikes me as a Winger/Dawkins type. I have him as high as anyone in this draft based on upside. I also think I rate Cody Williams higher than most, he's probably #2 for me.
I am a!so curious about Collier. Not with our top pick, but possibly later? Opinions seem all over on him, some mocks he's early 1st and some late 1st. What I've seen, he does remind me a bit of Arenas the way he penetrates and finishes through contact, and strokes it from 3. He's not as explosive as Gil, but he's also bigger and stronger.
NBA DRAFT ROOM: (Currently mocked at 20)
Isaiah Collier PG – USC – HT: 6-4 – WT: 210 – WING: NA – Fr – Collier had an up and down season for the Trojans, missing time with an injury and showing some limitations as a shooter. He’s a powerful driver and a skilled passer who’s best basketball is ahead of him but he might not be that elite PG prospect we thought he was. Comp: bulky Stephon Marbury.
Draft Notes
A true point guard with a good size, a strong frame and plays with great pace and balance. Collier is a floor general who knows how to run the show. He’s a great passer and instinctual play-maker who makes his teammates better.
He can also get his own offense and take over games when needed.
Brings a lot of leadership and confidence and is like a coach on the floor.
Excels at running the pick and role. Has a remarkable feel for the game and is incredibly crafty with the ball, although can be too turnover prone and needs to make more consistently smart decisions with the ball.
Isn’t the most explosive player or above-the-rim athlete. Relies on his size/bulk, which might not be as easy at the NBA level.
Suffered a broken hand midway through his freshman season at USC.
A likely one and done player
I prefer Carrington more as a prospect he's higher for me, but I am somewhat intrigued by Collier.
