Kinda wonder if that happens too. He was definitely below average last year but the year before serviceable. Can maybe talk yourself into last year just being a bad year and maybe he can give you what he did in 2021-2022. But there is the reality he is 40 and may be done. He also is close to 3,000 strikeout mark which Crew could spin into celebration.
Who else are even FA options? I saw Syndergaard tossed out there. He was average in 2022 but otherwise subpar since in like 2018-2019. I’m going off ERA+.
Vince Velasquez on paper seems like be an option. Does he have something legally going on or an injury? Last year with Pittsburgh was 4-4, 3.86 era, 112 era+. He is 31.
Rest if the guys have some name value but don’t think have much in the tank. Bumgarner is 34 but hasn’t been good since his last year in SF in 2019. Dallas Keuchel hasn’t been good in 4-5 years either. Johnny Cueto was okay in 2022 with the White Sox but is 37/38 off a poor season.
At that point do you just try something in house like Janson Junk I guess.
