I do believe Harden comes back because Harden is in a place where I think he wants to "chill" but have fun and play meaningful, competitive basketball to end his career... he will do that for a couple years with Kawhi + Zu + Mann, Powell, maybe Russ'. I also think he knows the Clippers know he doesn't have other apparent options from decent teams.
Random: Would I do a Jimmy Butler swap if that somehow happened? Another mid-30s, injury-prone player -- but yes, because he has played more in the postseason and plays big-time in the playoffs. I don't think those days are over or degraded too much, and Jimmy can still 'ball at a high-level for another couple seasons.
Kawhi and Jimmy Butler on the same team healthy (enough)for the next two seasons would still be awesome. : )
I hope Jeff Van Gundy influences the team to get "knife fighters" and more defensive size in front court.
Jimmy Butler = knife fighter
I would much rather have Butler than PG, but why would Miami make such a trade?
I think if Miami wants to move on as rumored, PG may be a decent canidate for them to still win-now and tweak their team around on the wing. Miami could feel that George as "the man" on the wing could be a boost in his play + new scenery in Miami. George's 2021 playoff run and 2024 playoff run are nearly opposite, but -- different systems and conferences can make a difference and bring that back.
And, I'm exaggerating that rumor a bit here of course -- but I think its something that could be explored by either team based on both Butler and George's situations being up in the air, being similar players in terms of age/durability, and both probably prefer warmer cities at this time in their career.
I think its a good match for both teams, and options to switch up their primary wing players.
We'll see. Butler in Miami is something to monitor.
