Simplest answer, we need a point guard and he clearly was going to be a top 10 pick.
there are lots of PG prospects projected as lottery picks. From what i read, injuries, lack of athleticism, sub par 3 pt shooter, bad defender. I just dont see the upside more than a tall, good passing player who could continue to be injury plagued
A partially torn ACL isn't a deal breaker or make him injury plagued, especially with our current roster. His free throw shooting is very good, which signals to me that he will become a better long range shooter in time. His athleticism isn't like others, but championship level teams don't usually have the best athletes. It can help, but there are other more important factors. Topic would be our best playmaker and make our other players better. At 18 in a weak draft, that would be a big plus. But I'm also just a person on a couch like the rest of us. So maybe this partially torn ACL does lead to other injuries or he never develops a better shot and he is back in Europe in five years. But we see the need on our team for a legit playmaker and Topic fits that. If his intangibles and competitive nature are high, then he can cover up for what he lacks athletically.
