OMG, please tell me this is real...

EDIT: I see the WOJ tweet now...I'm pretty high on Avdija, so caveat. I see him is likely better than any player that the Blazers would pick at 14. I don't like that they had to include the '29 1st, however.

Yeah, I really have no problem with just the 14 pick being moved for him. Giving up 2 first (and 2 seconds) and Brogdon for him just feels like an overpay. Blazers aren't FRP rich like other teams, so why are they pissing them away in this manner?

I have a feeling the '29 picks the Blazers have are going to be pretty good. Blazers signaling they do want to be competitive without rookies. I guess the Blazers have their SFoTF.

I'll admit, there is a part of me that is weirdly bummed they likely aren't going to draft Edey now. I'm not really an Edey guy, but if he fell to 14 I see now reason not to draft him. And as others have said, that would be fun incentive to tune in to games. I do think that Edey will live at the FT line and be an offensive force/possession winner, overall.

The 29 pick is the least favorable of their two they have (theirs and Bostons). It was a terribly worded tweet by Woj, but yeah, the Blazers have two unprotected first rounders that year (got the Boston 29 unprotected in the Jrue deal), so it's whichever one is lower that will goto Washington.

So I would guess they're betting on Boston being good for the rest of the 2020's.

I think we could still get a wing like Cody or Dalton but this signals to me it’s Clingan available at 7 as Mem can’t move up.

But walking away with Deni and one of Williams Dalton or Clingan would be a great result from a talent standpoint. Personally hoping it’s Cody even if that means we have a lot of ball-handlers.

We have three picks in 2029, I believe. Or had. Portland. Milwaukee. Boston.

Getting Avdija makes me less keen on Dalton, as we'll be quite backcourt/wing heavy with none of the three core wings (Sharpe, Dalton or Avidja) being strong defenders.

I'm hoping for Edey. He might bust, but he might also be great. We need to target upside in this draft.

You may be right on that, don't feel like looking it up, but that sounds right.

I can almost guarantee it's going to be Cody Williams.

Its middle FRP that is going to Boston in 2029. Thats fine unless Portland had two lottery picks in that draft.

Nice trade that gives Portland a second front court player that could start for a decent NBA team. Teams should always try to get better as opposed to mindlessly tanking in the hopes for luck in the lottery for where has that gotten the Pistons who have been drafting fifth ever since drafting Cade

In fairness to the other side of this argument, tanking/stockpiling can work for teams, too, but I'm with you: it's always better to replace your players or assets with better players and assets. Our old pal d-train used to say that, inspired by Trader Bob's penchant for turning the Blazers' assets into better ones. Of course, you just can't skip chemistry class...

Over Clingan, Knecht or Salaun? 1 of who will be available? I sure hope not

While I'm not at all sold on Cody due to his frame, I at least am attracted to his upside. Clingan on the other hand will quite likely be an elite role player, but nothing more.

Almost all the mock drafts have us taking Clingan, while also claiming he probably won't be available...
Let's hope no one trades up in the next 10 minutes :)

Well Holland coming in at five. Means Clingan or Matas are there at seven.

It’s not Williams build that is as concerning, as his tendency to float\disappear in games. Too many games where you don’t even notice him on the floor

Clingan will be a Blazer unless someone trades up with Charlotte

Return to Portland Trail Blazers
