If a deal doesn't present itself, I say resign him to a 3 or 4 year deal at hopefully a descending rate. But Cam Johnson, Bogdanvic, DFS, and Sharpe all need to be moved in my opinion. I'd move Schroeder too if the deal is right (either now or the deadline), but I'm also fine keeping him for the year too. Simmons I'd trade in a heartbeat if the Nets were getting any positive value back for him, but that's not going to happen. So I'd rather just hang onto him and let him expire instead of attaching an asset to her rid of him.
These deals are just the central pieces, may need to add on minor players on either side to make the money work, but here we go:
1.) Sign and trade Claxton for Luke Kennard and the 9th pick. If Grizzlies miss out on trading up for Clingan, this could be a way to go. Claxton fits great next to Jaren Jackson on paper and fits the timeline they have over there age wise. Nets get an expiring sharpshooter they can flip at the deadline and a lottery pick to start developing right out of the gate.
2.) Sharpe and DFS for Kennard and a lottery protected future first. Grizzlies again as I feel like they are a really good trade partner for the Nets. Grizzlies get a 3&D veteran wing to help their young team and a rebounding center, both things they need. The rumor mill out there says they like both Sharpe and DFS.
3.) Cam Johnson (or DFS instead if the cavs doesn't want to add on 3 years of long term money in Cam) for LeVert and #20. I know it's already been discussed on the board and some say it might be a light return, but I like the move. LeVert has already been through a (partial) rebuild for the Net in the past. He is also an expiring, so the team gets off Cam's future money while picking up a pick in tonight's draft. Cavs get a three point shooter who spaces the floor. Again, rumor mill says Cavs really like Cam. Maybe they can throw a future second rounder or two in the trade as well.
4.) Cam Johnson and Sharpe for Evan Fournier and Jaden Ivey. This one I'm not sure if the Pistons would do it, but I'd love to give Ivey a chance to be the lead guard on a team as I think he has a lot of potential. Even if he doesn't pan out, still young and cheap so not a problem to move off down the road. Unfortunately, he'll never be able to get the role as long as Cade in Detroit. Fournier is just an expiring used to make the salaries close. We know Pistons were interested in Cam last year, but that was with Monty as the coach which is no longer the case. But they desperately need shooting to space the floor Cade, Ausar, and Duren - all who are well below average at the 3 ball or completely non-existent. Cam is locked up so the Pistons don't have to worry about a flight risk either, as Detroit isn't a premier free agency destination. Sharpe is a proven backup big that is young so he fits the timeline they have over there and can step up when Duren inevitably gets hurt.
5.) Cam Johnson, Schroeder, and a future second rounder for #13 and Harrison Barnes (or Kevin Heurter if they'd rather keep Barnes) and Davion Mitchell. Kings get positional upgrades at both the forward spot and the backup PG spot for the cost of the #13 pick. This move helps show Fox the kings are trying to win now and hopefully helps nudge him in the right direction of resigning with them. Nets get to kick the tires on Mitchell for a year to see if there is anything in an expanded role for him as he is still young. Barnes (or Heurter) hopefully they can flip at some point for some minor draft capital next off-season as an expiring contract. Obviously the biggest thing is getting a pick in this year's draft.
i think there are a bunch of ideas in there not far from what we see tonight. these guesses seem to change constantly but mine as of now would be:
Clax extends
CamJ to SAC (#13 + fillers like Mitchell, Duarte, etc)
DFS to CLE (#20 + filler including Wade)
Jordi gets some of his SAC guys who can play bigger roles in BKL.
Nets have been linked to Wade before.
No idea who they'll target at #13/#20, probably younger upside guys.
