Re: Begley: Unlikely Knicks to Retain Hartenstein
People in NYC sh*t on OKC and ORL but those are fine cities to live in too, especially if you’re rich and on the road half the year. Can also have houses in other places for the offseason. If Isaiah leaves for a bunch more money (these states have lower taxes too), and maybe more offensive freedom, I wouldn’t blame the guy.
Isaiah and his agent knew what they were doing when he only signed a 2 year deal instead of 3. This was the consequence if he broke out, as we dont have his full bird rights. Maybe he wasnt expecting this, but he should have taken the extra year. There’s a possibility he never truly intended to stay.
We’ll find out tomorrow. Not picking a big in the 1st/early 2nd gives some confidence, but if Isaiah leaves we wouldn’t replace him with a rookie anyway. Either got something else spicy lined up or we’ll go after Goga or whoever.

No news is good news…
$65 million is the same as $100 million…
But $65 million+plus a chip and happiness at work with no regrets is NOT the same as $100 in ORL and definitely not OKC!

Again, Ihart strikes me as a player who has a high bbiq-
Is he really leaving this team so his wife can just have more stuff? He can have more cars? Security and generational wealth come with all offers…
I think the kid will value a work place with a group he loves to play with- assuming that -that was his experience...

Giving him a trade kicker and that 4th year being a player option (so he could renogotiate a bigger deal sooner) should help get him closer to other offers. All these NYK cap maneuvers in recent days all point to a full court press of IHart. We’ll know within 48 hours…

I hate to say this but yes.
1. His time is limited in this chapter of his life. Get your bags
2. Yes, you can be immortal in NY but usually people will talk about the alphas (Brunson, Randle, etc.)
3. People will forget what you've done to sacrifice for the team
He has already lost millions because of draft rumors that made him drop to the 2nd round.

I like Ihart a lot, one of the few players I'll still root for if he left for a bag

Take less and have Thibs run him to the ground or get the bag from a state with less taxes. Tough call.

He obviously likes the team and city but if there's an offer he can't refuse, he won't.
OKC and Orlando are going to have to pay their main guys soon enough so there might not be something too much bigger than what we offer.

Lol.
OKC doesnt look so bad:

Obviously it’s smaller than NYC, but let’s not pretend that New York doesnt have its share of issues. I see em every day. More crime and homeless. Higher taxes and everything just being more expensive in general. It’s a great city mostly, but isnt for everyone.
Isaiah can still have a place in NYC too, and will be traveling 8 months a year. Im sure he’s having a hard time deciding. Being part of the first Knick title in 50+ years would be legendary clearly. He’d be able to make the money up in the long run here, but cant blame him if he takes the guaranteed cash.
Also didn’t you move to Texas?
