I don’t know why everyone is panicking, plenty of teams write in these contracts things the new owners can/can’t do. Wyc loves the Celtics, they aren’t turning it over to just anyone.

Didn’t Cuban add something to keep himself in charge for a few years? Haven’t deals fallen through when the seller thought the buyers were going to go in a direction they didn’t want (AROD nem).

The new owners that blow teams up are usually doing it to teams that have been run piss poorly. Why would a new owner blow up a winning team, how does that grow the investment? Doesn’t make sense. You’re not making money off your investment if your team isn’t winning.

If I'm JT, I'm not signing any supermax contract that doesn't also include trade provisions. You don't know where this is going. The team could be stripped bare in a few years. Tatum could end up as a star without a supporting cast or could be shipped off to wherever. He has to protect himself. This supermax doesn't even start until 2025-26. A player option for the fifth year isn't nearly enough protection.

That's part of why the timing is so weird.
