It basically allows us to use the $5M exception.

This just isn't true.R-DAWG wrote:GONYK wrote:The Knicks did this trade to stay under the first apron.R-DAWG wrote:
Forgot Shake was still on the team. knicks now hard caped at 2nd apron.
I have the Knicks at 19.27mm below the 2nd apron with 12 roster slots
Top 8
Sims
Dotiet
2 2nd rd picks.
I would consider signing precious to a trade exception contract after using the taxpayer MLE - which is believe is 5.4mm.
Give Precious a 1+1 for 13.5 guaranteed in year 1 and 14.5mm non guaranteed in year 2 to create trade flexibility. The contact could only take back 6.75mm in a trade this year but the full 14.5 next year.
They are nowhere near being hardcapped at the second apron.
By aggregating salaries they are hard capped at the second apron.
They are currently 19.27mm below said apron with 12 of 14 roster spots filled.

And we can still use bird rights on precious along with using the 5 MM exception as well

They will be below the first apron after this trade.

But this trade triggers a 2nd apron hard cap. They haven’t completed the roster yet. They did this trade to avoid a hard cap of the first apron

I believe this is the case.
