No.

It basically allows us to use the $5M exception.

Precious plus Tax MLE. Combined salaries can’t exceed 19.27

I have the Knicks at 19.27mm below the 2nd apron with 12 roster slots

Top 8

2 2nd rd picks.

I would consider signing precious to a trade exception contract after using the taxpayer MLE - which is believe is 5.4mm.

Give Precious a 1+1 for 13.5 guaranteed in year 1 and 14.5mm non guaranteed in year 2 to create trade flexibility. The contact could only take back 6.75mm in a trade this year but the full 14.5 next year.
The Knicks did this trade to stay under the first apron.

They are nowhere near being hardcapped at the second apron.

By aggregating salaries they are hard capped at the second apron.

They are currently 19.27mm below said apron with 12 of 14 roster spots filled.
This just isn't true.

They will be below the first apron after this trade.

If the Knicks didn't send out more than they received, I assume there's a small range it needs to be in and not a hard line of difference, then they aren't 'hard capped' in any way at either apron if I am understanding this correctly.

Also KBD is a decent forward to have for depth, not going to blow anyone away but has a little bit of skill on both ends of the court and not another undersized wing. Knicks finally starting to add some length to this team that has desperately needed it.

Shake doing the Knicks a solid but probably only because he's getting a one year salary guaranteed more than the vetmin he wouldn't command from anywhere else, anyway. Also allows the Knicks to retain Precious instead of use him for this trade.

This is why we just wait for the people that actually know the cap to tell us where we actually are.

We finally have a guy that can play PF with some size and length to backup Randle. Hope we keep him and don't just ship him out for the backup center we need.

And we can still use bird rights on precious along with using the 5 MM exception as well

Correct. We can sign our own guys.

That's why there is an iHart sized salary gap below the hard cap

But this trade triggers a 2nd apron hard cap. They haven’t completed the roster yet. They did this trade to avoid a hard cap of the first apron

This makes it easier to work out a trade for a center if an opportunity presents itself, no additional apron restrictions to navigate.

Can use the TPE on Richards even though that would bring on the hard cap at the 2nd apron but the Knicks would be done working the roster at that point so is not a problem.

Also opens up more flexibility to trade for Kessler if mAinge is agreeable and not wanting everything under the moon for him.

What triggers the hard cap is sending out more money than receiving in a trade when being over the cap, they avoided this, what are you not understanding? If they now use the Obi TPE to trade for Richards, let's say, that would trigger the hard cap at the second apron, though because it takes on actual salary for a TPE.

So to confirm even though they can go into the second apron. They are still in the 1st apron?

I believe this is the case.

Correct we are at 173 million wth 11 players.

first apron is 178.1
second apron is 188.9

We have about 16.9 million until the second apron with options to resign Precious and have the tax MLE to use which is about 5.2 milliom
