This is tough. He had a guaranteed contract in hand and now he's on the outside looking in. Hoopshype has him ranked as the 22nd best free agent available. Yikes. And he winds up watching Lonnie Walker sign an Exibit 10 contract. I'm not sure who to blame more, him, or his agent. By NBA standards he hasn't gotten paid - about $7.5 million in his career. Leaving over $ 2 million on the table was a real gamble and he may never make it back to the NBA.
I hope he does. He's a likeable guy.

Bit of a surprise that no team signed him. Why did he opt out, what the heck was that?

Oshae was great in his role during the season and in spots during the Playoffs after KP went down, particularly the Indiana series. So I’ll always be grateful he pitched in to bring home banner 18. Appreciate you Oshae!

Brissett injected energy every time he played. He was a plus on the floor more often than not. D was good, but his offense was limited. There is no direct replacement for what he brought so his contribution will be replaced by a different look.

Oshae was 10th on the team in minutes. The competition for those 630 minutes will be one of the biggest unknowns as the season begins. There are several players on the cusp of the rotation vieing for that floor time.

Tillman will eat up most of those minutes. Lonnie Walker is the way to go, he is a better player than Brissett. Brissett should fire his agent.

Yes, Tillman will play regularly, but early on he'll also be filling in a lot of Porzingis' minutes. There is clear opportunity for Walker. He just has to play defense. Springer might also compete for time, as well as Queta if they decide to go double big.

Good point on the Double-Big. All these guys will get some audition time, at various levels.
Let these guys gain experience and eat up Regular Season minutes. Need the Top 8, for the Playoffs.

It's interesting because I'm not 100% sure that sitting at the end of the bench again, potentially getting minutes leached away by rookies/younger guys would be the best thing for Oshae. At the moment it seems like turning down $2m isn't the wisest of choices, but if he can find a place to get genuine minutes (even if that's overseas), just one new multi-year NBA contract would net him back everything he "lost" by turning down the player option.

I'm hopeful that he can slide into a final roster spot for a team needing some cheap veteran depth, but C's bringing in a guy like Lonnie rather than coming back to terms with Oshae (now that it's kind of clear that he's not getting more money than he turned down, nor guaranteed minutes), is not the best sign for him....

I think he could put up decent numbers in Europe. Might be the best move for him at this stage and bounce back next summer.

Yabusele and Exum had to play multiple years as stars in the Euroleague, make well north of 40% of their threes and shine with their national teams just to claw their way back on minimum-ish deals (Exum might have gotten slightly more). I don't think going to Europe is going to boost his career earnings in the long run. He should have just exercised the option even if it's understandable that why he didn't (a borderline rotation player on a championship team in his prime should really get offered a job in the NBA the following season).

The one nugget in his favor is Derrick Jones Jr turned down a bigger option year last year to end up going to the Mavs and that somehow worked out. So there’s at least one precedent though I’m not that optimistic for him.

FWIW, that ranking seems way off, imo.

I might be missing someone, but this is roughly how I would rank the best available free agents..

Markelle Fultz
Dennis Smith Jr
Oshae Brissett
Bismack Biyombo
Davis Bertans
Justin Holiday
Jae Crowder
Doug McDermott
Robert Covington
Chuma Okeke
Danilo Gallinari
Danuel House Jr

After this group, there's basically no other good free agents..so I'm not sure where Hoopshype is getting this 22nd ranking when I can only come up with 12 somewhat decent players..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything :)

Bertans signed in Dubai, not a FA any more.

even at 10 players it was a risky move for Brissett. He could have taken the money and quietly went to management later if things weren't working out and asked for a trade. He's a fringe player who hasn't made much money in the NBA.

any day now Oshae will start infusing his championship DNA into the Euro League or G League

after seeing him play *for* the Celtics for a year, I'm even more in shock that he actually hit 5 threes in a game *against* the Celtics, like that that actually happened. I'm not sure I saw him hit that many in warmups
