Yeah, agreed. I hope we trade for another first rounder and leverage that to move up in the draft.
As it currently stands, I'd bet we're better than Atlanta and Charlotte too. Especially, Charlotte if they don't resign Bridges. If they resign Bridges, get Williams and Ball healthy and see improvement from Miller, they could be competitive, I guess. But, at same time, not being competitive is terrible for moral. Losing the play-in game might not be the worst thing, at least the team will feel like their games matter all year long.
this is exactly why we should be trading Poeltl NOW, when we're stuck in 11th by March will feel really stupid.
Can we do this right for once? Isn't this supposed to be a rebuild?
Can we get alteast one top pick /prospect during it? like 1????!
I get it, but it is tricky, because unless you're getting a younger but still capable big in return, you are really signaling to the guys on the team that you want to lose. If I'm Scottie, RJ or IQ, I'm not so sure I'm hoping to take a step back in winning in order to move up 5 spots in the draft.
The truth of the matter is, the Raptors are building pretty ethically, not full on tank, but a youth movement for sure with a focus on player development with our young guys. Some of these teams are tanking pretty shamelessly, and that's tough to compete with if you want to build winning habits and chemistry among your team. As a fan, I'd much rather them be competitive than find reasons to prolong injuries and tank like the second half of last year. The wrong decision was made when we decided to go after Poeltl in the first place. For a team in a different spot, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal, but much too big of a gamble given what position we were in with looming free agent FVV. We lost the gamble, that's for sure. I'm not sure the 7th pick compared to a 12th pick is worth playing a season that's not competitive, but that's just me. I also respect the other side of the coin, however, but I just think it's more about other teams being pathetic than us not doing a rebuild properly in many ways.
