We found Isaiah off the scrap heap… we can find a comparable replacement, I’m sure.
You guys keep underrating Isaiah. He was legit for years before we got him, and was actually at his best on the Clippers/Cavs. He just fell threw the cracks to us. He’d still prob be Mitch’s backup too if Mitch never got hurt again.
Isaiah was a rarity. His whole journey bouncing around and then getting paid 30 mill a year basically never happens. Pretending we will just strike gold again in the next season or two is wishful thinking bro.
We pushed 90% of our chips in. We may as well push in the rest and go for it all now before other powerhouses/Wemby emerge. Grab Kessler or another starting level C. We cannot count on Mitch, Precious/Jericho, Hukporti, etc being enough.
We got Isaiah on the cheap... and he blossomed.
We got Josh Hart on the cheap... and he blossomed.
We got Brunson on the cheap... and he blossomed.
We got DDV on the cheap... and he blossomed.
We got McBride on the cheap... and he blossomed.
See the trend here? When something happens often enough, it's no longer a fluke or accident, and you have to give some credit to our scouts and decision makers and have confidence that they can do it again during this run/window. Maybe it's Kessler or maybe it's someone else. No worries.
I wouldn’t say we got Josh cheap. 2 young players and 2 1sts is an overpay if anything.
Jalen and Donte were signed in FA for solid money. They clearly outplayed their contracts but they weren’t minimum guys or anything. We only have 5 mill to spend now.
Deuce is a solid 2nd round pick. Nothing special and took him 3 years to become playable.
Isaiah is the outlier as we signed him for only 8 mill a year, but he always had starter potential. I said it right when we signed him in his welcome thread that he would take Mitch’s job. I was not surprised at all.
It’s not as easy to find a starting center who fits, especially with the limited assets/cap space we have now, than it is to find backup guards like Donte, Josh, and Deuce. That’s my main point here.
We need a center who can play 20+ mpg, and start when Mitch gets hurt (or eventually push Mitch to the bench like Isaiah did). We’ll see if we can find that guy. Isaiahs dont grow on trees though.
