Something Outlandish - Pels / Cavs
Just wanting some perspectives on this idea....
Pels get - Garland & Mobley
Cavs get - Dejounte, Herb, Murphy III
Mobley/Theis
Zion/JRE
Ingram/vet min
CJ/Hawkins
Garland/Jose
Allen/Niang
Murphy III/Wade
Herb/LeVert
Mitchell/Straus
Dejounte/Merrill?
Why?
Cleveland switches direction from the twin tower project to a smaller, defence heavy, squad to surround Mitchell. Pelicans solve the glut of wings by keeping Ingram and moving off the promising young guys in Herb and Murphy III.

Pelicans look terrible on paper, especially financially

Think you would want to put Mobley with Herb and Murphy, to whichever team.
If I were NOP I would be trying to get Mobley with Zion and put a monster defensive team together.

Unless Mobley is quietly asking out, the Cavs aren't going to do anything like this.

I don’t think I’d trade Mobley for this even without Garlands inclusion. The guy is pretty untouchable.

Pelicans owe a couple of FRPs.
Mobley is equal to Murphy/Jones.
Garland is worth more than Murray.
Make up the difference and do it.
The downside is Pels would be pretty much resigned to to keeping Ingram at a max-ish salary.

If Cleveland considered anything around this, you do it. Dump salary after.
You have to end up trying to find some acceptable perimeter defenders but have assets to do so.. are happy with Mobley/Zion/Garland for as long as they stay..
But how easy a yes it is for NOP probably means it’s not great for Cleveland? I think it’s just not a fixable base for Cleveland, but my shot would be they need all the value Ingram holds? Whatever it is.

Why is this a valid response?
Not trying to flame here, but 99% of the trades suggested could be answered the same way.
It is for discussion. Me being a known non-fan of Mobley, What has Mobley done to show 1) he is a max guy, 2) he is not capable of being on the block?
If I look at the potential between Mobley and (Murphy/Jones) I take Jobes and Murphy every day.

Re: Something Outlandish - Pels / Cavs
Mobley is not equal to Jones and Trey. Not even yet getting into the salary difference of Mobley being paid a max deal. Pels would never do that. Adding on Garlands deal, plus Zions max, CJ’s money etc is not at all a feasible scenario. Nor is starting Garland/CJ.
I get if Cavs fans feel attached to Mobley and not being comfortable wanting to deal him. No issue with that at all. But I think there is a major disconnect with just how valuable wings like Jones and Trey are.

because it's nicer than saying "no f'ing way".
with your position on Mobley you wouldn't want NO to do the trade anyway, why have issues with others that wouldn't do the trade either?

Let's start with he's only 23, he averaged 21.4 ppg, 9.4 rpg, and 3.2 apg in that Celtics series, the front office is really high on him, and Windhorst is reporting he's going to get a 5 year extension this summer.

Not really. Instead of saying No way, give a reason that allows discussion. That is what this is about.
No one on this board is more “right” than the next. It is all opinions. I have no issues. I do have points of discussion.
Why would I not want NOP to do the trade?

Will Mobley maintain those stats or was this simply a few games where he was targeted. Mitchell did not play in those games.

Re: Something Outlandish - Pels / Cavs
This is pretty fair on paper since it balances the deficiencies of both rosters, with Pels the center spot, and for Cavs their wing position. I think the value is close, but in terms of pure upside value Garland and Mobley is probably worth more, but Herb has a very positive contract value which makes this kinda fair

Garland - Ingram seems like an interesting basis.

I'm definitely not overreacting to Mobley having a good series against a team with very little rim protection with Porzingis out, but it seems like everybody's reacting as if Mobley was taking a leap when he was just taking advantage of Horford and Kornet.
But it was enough validation of Cleveland's front office priors that Mobley is the key to being a contender that Mobley's not going to be moved and he's going to sign an extension.

I think everyone knows it would take such an overpay to get Mobley from Cleveland. But I do not see him being much different than many other similar sized PF.
Mobley is the least of the best group of young PF.
Zion
JJJ
Banchero
J smith-(Mobley probably better)
The primers:
Markkanen
Porzingis
The”older” guard:
Siakam
Giannis
