Eh, truth be told, I feel like the same could be said about Randle fans too. Don't you guys want to be right about everything you've said about Randle, after all that time? Now that we're a team gunning for a championship, there's no more washing over his mistakes or making excuses for him or whatever. It's not about the thumbs down or the Obi or whatever. It's basically this: Now that we are seeking a championship, Julius Randle is a risk.
Randle has been here since 2019. This is more than enough time to establish who he is as a player, that he can contribute to a championship team. Jalen Brunson came for 2 years and settled all doubts. By this time, the truth of the matter is, Julius Randle should be more celebrated than Jalen Brunson, who showed up two seasons ago. He really should be the franchise guy by now. He had an awesome 2020-2021 season and brought us to the playoffs, when we were down. He really was the first one to take a discounted contract, before Brunson did it. At the end of the 2020-2021 season, Julius Randle basically had the path laid out for him to be the MAN.
We can blame a lot of factors for why his trajectory got derailed, like injury, mental health, him having a baby, teammates, fans booing him, or whatever, but the truth of the matter is, after five years, it's on Randle. It's always been on Randle.
I wouldn’t even say his trajectory got derailed, it’s still a good trajectory, he was an all star last year and certainly would have been all-nba again until he got injured. I wish he didn’t get injured but what are you gonna do? I am very much hoping that he can finally get to the playoffs healthy next year unlike the past two seasons and bury some demons
Of course I’d like to be right about Randle but that actually coincides with a good outcome for the team which is my top priority. Which seeing as he’s made 3 all star teams I already feel vindicated and just ready for the final payoff when he plays well in the playoffs and we get a ring
I hated his face for 3 years!! The last two seasons he has changed my stance. Last January I actually became a fan of his. That injury really killed what could have been a great season for him and the team. I want to see the team healthy with the added talent we have.
That said, I am not giving him 5/310 ever. Not at his point on his career. If he wants that deal, trade him and move on.
Randle is one of the best offensive PF in the game.
We definitely need more offense to ease the burden of Brunson.
The problem is he shrinks as going gets tough.
It was Derrick Rose who laid his body on the court vs. Atlanta.
Once Rose was done we were back in the lottery again.
Then comes the Miami series.. for me this series showed true color of player.
Please don't tell me about injury, seat your azz down if you can't even guard a traffic cone in playoffs.
We already have a lead guard who needs the ball.
We need ball movement with shot makers and defenders a la Golden State hey days.
I would not mind checking out the fit until trade deadline.
But this summer could be his highest value as asset.
