I’m pretty fine staying put, too. We now have a coach again. It could be worth giving it a whirl as is. :D

Seriously, what Pelinka pulled off last year assembling this roster was quite remarkable. The price tags… It’s a very versatile roster with many multiposition players, a good mix of young and veterans, quick and big lineups are possible.

Here’s our current roster per the Lakers site:

Guards: AR, Russell, Dinwiddie, JHS, Christie, Vincent, Knecht, Bronny

Forwards: LBJ, Reddish, Hinson, Lewis, Hachimura, Vando, Traoré

Centers: AD, Hayes, Wood, Castleton

yeah, I think this team want to see if JJ can truly maximize the talent of this current team esp if they stay healthy.
They are also hoping other teams would start lowering their asking price esp with the expiring contract of DLo and them wanting to dump contracts.
I am guessing if they really need to shake things up, they will go with their favorite trade partner, the Wizards. The same team who absorbed the contracts of Bongga and Wagner when they desperately needed to dump their contracts. Wizards also happily "gave up" Russ when the Lakers wanted the declining star then pretty much gift wrapped their young player in Rui.
By the trade deadline, Lakers can choose from Valanciunas, Kuzma, Kispert, Brogdon etc but it's going to cost them a FRP, hopefully just one.

I actually kind of like Valanciunas and Kuzma... I'd hate to see them added to this team to sit and watch the Bron Show for another 3 years. Kuzma's rounded into a pretty nice player after he got out of here.

What was "remarkable" about last years team? Honest question. I saw a boring, pretty untalented team that barely made the playoffs. And then they got creamed. We were 8th in the West....dead center. 15th in offense, and 16th in defense. That's the very definition of "ho-hum"....nothing remarkable at all.

And secondly, we don't have a coach now, as you stated. We literally don't have a coach. We have a guy who we HOPE is gonna be a good coach...but who in actuality, you have ZERO reason to say is good, other than you want him to be....cause he's never coached before. Let's get that fact straight. There is ZERO evidence that this guy is any better than Rambis. You have no idea. So saying "now that we have a coach" is untrue. We have a "guy" who we hope to make a coach.

And lastly, guys like me are pretty effin tired of the whole coach song and dance. 2 years ago, Ham was the man who was gonna replace that tired old Vogel guy. That "dufus" who didn't know how to get the best out of Brick...and stopped caring about defense apparently. Even though he brought us a title, and clearly knew how to coach. In fact...he was the "super coach" who was gonna replace that sh**ty coach Walton.....that big mistake who couldnt coach his way out of a paper bag....despite the fact that just a few years earlier he was the "wonder kid" who coached the Warriors to a 43 and 2 record (whatever it was) and was amazing. Everyone was so glad we were gonna get him.....cause MAN, was he gonna be a major upgrade to that horrible coach Scott. You remember Scott right?? "Tank commander" I believe he was called. Worlds worst coach who just let Kobe do what he wanted...(let's ignore the fact that Scott coached what is literally the worst collection of bull-sh** ever assembled on a basketball floor)....but just a few years before that, we were so happy to get Scott.....cause remember what a disaster D'antoni was??!! OH MY GOD...wasn't he the worst?!!! ...........and so on and so on and so on. GIVE IT A REST WITH THE COACHING. It's pure boring at this point. Your throwing your towel in with a guy who's literally not coached a second in anything but 12-year olds, and saying "now that we have a coach" ....it's fake news. We all 'hope' JJ brings the goods.....but A) we have no clue, and B) he prob won't look too good with this complete junk team.....just like Walton looked a step or two down, when compared to his work with the Warriors.

Funny how that is, no??? Turns out your team means alot more than your coach. I'm sick and tired of the FO getting away with making the coach the fall guy. And yet it always works with huge swaths of the fanbase. So now we're supposed to just anoint some dude with ZERO experience an upgrade.....and call this disaster of an off-season a success?? That's fu***ing kool-aid drinking right there man.....no thank you. None for me.

This coach with zero experience, is also NOT the guy we wanted...it should be noted. So let's also make that perfectly clear.

So screw this current squad, and "this great new coach" and all the other BS. This is propaganda at this point.

But buy your tickets and smile.

I may be captain pessimist, and I admit I'm a bit of a dick.....but God-Dammit.....the Lakers are BETTER THAN THIS!!! It's shameful what we've become. And hearing fans just call some new coach - who has absolutely no experience - an upgrade, based on nothing.....but therefore the Lakers a "go" for the next year.......is frankly disappointing. Is this really what you want? Your happy with this??

I dunno.....I expect better. I expect a plan. A plan for this year, and a plan for 5 years forward. And clearly we got zip. This offseason was a complete disaster. We didn't get the coach we want. We ended up with a "pretty face" who we're crossing our fingers on. And we were able to make exactly zero roster changes.

Am I wrong in saying "F**** this!!" ?? I don't think I am. Just wish that others were half as disappointed in the Lakers as I am.

As of right now If Ad plays the C and Bron the PF ...

If Lakers can some how can get a "Decent Center" and push AD to the PF spot what happens to the line up with Bron - Does Bron become the spot up shooter OR point foward yet again - remember JJ says he wants Bron to play more off Ball - a reason I think Reaves gonna be the point
My Go Team

The idea that Davis needs to be a mostly PF again is the most simplistically overstated trope on this board.

Davis can undoubtedly play "some" PF for some parts of some games, but if he plays PF almost full-time, on offense the Lakers will lack spacing, and on defense they will lack wing protection with a 40-year old forced to guard wings.

Davis is a center in this new league. Porzingis is also a center. Garnett would be a center too.

What Davis needs is for LeBron James to help add a physical presence, too help him guard some beefy guys and help him rebound.

Do they need a center? Yes, but a backup center. They need a center who can provide defense when Davis sits and play with Davis occasionally when they are playing Denver or Philadelphia.

In all other situations, the vast majority of the time, Davis needs to play center and James needs to embrace supporting Davis by rebounding and willingly guarding some beefy big men at various points of the game.

In essence, James is the big man on defense that Davis needs.

Lakers has been without a legit backup for a too long and given AD's injury history it would be nice to be able to rest him once in a while and not force him to play through every minor nagging injury. Would also be nice to be able to play a two-big lineups in certain matchups (Boston, Minny, Nuggets etc.).

I dont think Hayes is the guy and i dont know what we have with Wood, tbh.

Wendell Carter Jr., Walker Kessler etc. would be awesome, but expensive.
Kelly Olynyk could make some sense as well with his shooting/passing.

Wendell Carter Jr. and Kessler aren't backup centers. They're guys who will demand at least 28 minutes a game.

That's not what this team needs. They don't need a 30-minute per game center to pair with Davis. They need a proper backup defensive center, a guy who will be happy averaging closer to 20 minutes per game, not 30.

Also, this backup center needs to be defensive. Olynyk isn't defensive. He's not too much better than Thomas Bryant.

The guys I want are Robert Williams III (trade Vincent, Hayes, a protected 1st) and Bismack Biyombo (min).

Williams is a starting caliber defensive center who deserves 30 minutes per, but with his injury history, would be resigned to becoming a grade-A seventh man off the bench. Biyombo is a low-budget Williams.

For me, James guards more centers this year because Vanderbilt becomes Davis' backup.

I'd prefer the lineup look like this, however:

PG - James - Schifino
SG - Christie - James - Lewis
C --- Davis - Williams - Biyombo
PF - Hayward - Knecht - Hinson (2way)
SF - LaVine - Reaves - Craig

I'm not worried about any team In the east until Lakers reach the finals - And sadly I don't think they'll be getting to the finals this year as for me It's Dallas. During the regular season Lakers seem to lose games they should win and win games they shouldn't win, so not worried about the east.

Playoff predictions:

If my predictions (thread) for playoffs going to be anything close this Is how I got It going.
Lakers win playIn and get 7th

Face Dallas first round - I expect Dallas to go to finals again and this time Win the chip. But If by some miracle they beat Dallas.

I have Wolves facing Pelicans and move on then face either Lakers/Dallas conf semis.

So Lakers/Wolves example conf semis. If Lakers can then beat Wolves (don't even see that happening) they have to face OKC In the Conf Finals

Denver face Kings 1st round 4/5 spot they lose that series, kings move on to face OKC after beating Memphis, I got OKC beating Kings then OKC face Dallas/Lakers In the conf finals...

In the East I got Knicks going to the finals ... So for me If Lakers can't beat Dallas 1st round wolves/2nd? I got Dallas vs Knicks finals.

So this playoff after play in, got to worry about; Dallas, Wolves OKC to get to the finals.

And If Lakers can beat those 3 teams It's

Lakers vs Knicks NBA Finals.

Hope that's right lol.

Might be time for a "Minutes Prediction thread" for each of Lakers players, we do this every year too, well most years. Thought about starting It up, but will leave It up to you guys ;) ... One thing for sure Is first half of season I want Bron/AD closer to 30-35 min range crank It up 2nd half of season If need - gotta try and save them for playin/playoffs :)

Wendell Carter Jr. is pretty unique. He can shoot 3s, play both the 4 and 5 on both ends of the floor so him and AD would split minutes at the 5 and get a some time at the 4 as well. Depending on matchups.

Kessler played 23mpg last year and even if that is bumped a bit it should still allow AD to play mostly at the 5.

Olynyk would still be solid, despite his defensive shortcomings.

Williams would be a major risk. The guy played a combined 41 games over the past two years. Simply too risky.

Bronny and Lewis didn't need to be given roster spots and some players from the last year didn't need to be given options.

There are still moves to be made if we went all in with the picks and assets(Max, Austin, Knecht) to make us a real contender around the best duo in the league. However, the Lakers motivation to invest in Lebron-AD like that is not there, like half of this forum, so here we are.

Agree with everything you said.

Regarding Bron helping AD, banging with the bigger dudes and rebounding - I think that's a losing battle, cos Bron hasn't done it for years now. Think it's just a business decision to preserve his energy to play 35-40 mpg, and it's not gonna change. Very real and understandable limitation, and we just need to find ways to work around it.

This is why I was so fixed on trying to get Miles Bridges as our #1 target this summer, and reports were that he wanted to come to a relevant team to be able to get some attention on his game rather than his off court stuff. But this squad rn is a joke and there's little chance of recovering given Jeanie's cronies absolute incompetence.

So, enjoy team USA, and watch highlights, and let another season pass I guess.

I wonder if we could get Markkanen, Garland or even bring back Ingram. We can add depth to a contending team and picks to a rebuilding team. I’m not opposed to going after a young all-star calibre player since Lebron is a massive expiring when he decides to hang it up.

Garland's proving to be the same value for his contract as Dlo atp (dollar:production). Severely failing to perform under pressure. And his contract basically strips all of all our depth.

Lauri's contract is tasty af tho, but Ainge would want the 2 picks + Austin + Knecht + a night with the cancer blondie, so there's at least three things from that list that Rob isn't allowed to offer, even if Jeanie's ready for some wholesome action for a night
