France has strong representation of the Christian faith. About 50% of the population identifies as Christian. Around 5% identifies as Muslim. Only 1% are Jewish. So, to lump all of them together as Abrahamic faiths when Christianity represents around 90% of the adherents of Abrahamic faiths is a bit disingenuous.

France is a Christian-majority country so it is only natural that the religion that they're going to recreate/pay homage to/lampoon is going to be their majoritarian religion. That's what normally happens, everywhere around the world. Recreating/paying homage to/lampooning a minority religion would be the weird part.

I get what you're trying to imply here, G R E Y, but I fully disagree.

Yeah that's why they picked one faith over another

Yep, that is indeed my opinion. I know we disagree. We can agree to disagree.

I just realized the defending beach champs April Ross and Alix Klineman are not even playing this Olympics. I just assumed they'd be there. The two USA women's pairs are Kloth/Nuss and Cheng/Hughes.

And since he's come up a few times, I believe Chase Budinger's (and his partner Miles Evans') first match is tonight at midnight EST.

France won rugby. So now ... Macron may name Antoine Dupont as prime minister.

I hope that was the plan :)

It's in the Olympic Charta that the Host has to show the society in its own country. You cultureless american don't know anything about Europe in general.

Moulin Rouge and Dragqueens have been always a part of Parisian Society and France in general. They are a part of our European culture.

I'm tired of nbc asking "what is it like to play in the Olympics"

abc was 40x better than anything nbc ever put together en toto. nbc was stunningly louzy with Carillo and Collinsworth being condescendingwhelp Carillo is still here and they replaced Chris with manning

No dude, you're really confused here if you think that the US has been making Paris "woke". You should probably just read some French history, but I'll tell you what my thought was when I watched the Opening Ceremony:

Whoa, this is going to freak my fellow Americans out. No way we'll do anything thing this daring when we have the Olympics in '28.

But I also thought it was totally on brand for Paris, which has been at the bleeding edge of Western Culture's Overton Window for centuries.

And frankly I loved a lot of what they were doing just showing the rest of the world who their culture is without any apology other than to those who suffered at their culture's hands. Doesn't mean it all resonated with me of course, but I don't expect it too. It's their culture I'm experiencing, it should stretch my mind a bit.

Is it true there's a blackout in Paris?

If so, do we know why?

It's crazy I see all those tweets and news about Paris being under blackout for 3hrs when I'm here in Paris and looking out my window everything is normal and lit up as usual. And now people are talking about a conspiracy since the medias arent talking about it, because nothing's happening  The world's going mad.

Are people still talking about the Last Supper thing? There was no mockery; you only consider it mockery because of your negative feelings towards drag. This is such a nothingburger. I do find it ironic that the people complaining about this are largely the same people who complain about how people are too sensitive these days.

Also found this post from FB (experts can verify):

I’m about to step on some toes in regard to the Opening Ceremony at the Paris Olympics.

The headless woman was Marie Antoinette. She ruled over France and was found guilty of treason, conspiracy, and stealing from the country.

Also, it was not the Last Supper. It was a depiction of an Ancient Greek Bacchanal… because, you know, the Olympics are ancient and Greek. Surprise!

And if you didn’t know, a Bacchanalia is an uncontrollably promiscuous, extravagant, and loud party. The parties often spanned several days which honored the god of wine, Bacchus (the blue guy covered in grape vine). He is also known as Dionysus, the Greek god of fertility, later known as the god of wine and pleasure.

And finally, it was not Death on a pale horse. It was Sequana, Goddess of the Seine, the River in which the boat precession took place. She was meant to be the representation of the Olympic spirit and of Sequana.

“Paris is back on its feet, jubilant, flamboyant, creative and open. Free,” - Thomas Jolly, the artistic director.

Damn Japanese people must hate Germany lol. Just yesterday Japan lost to Germany in volleyball, basketball and hockey, and Angelique Kerber also beat Osaka in tennis. And today they're facing off in handball and Germany should win easily.

Check out the street style skateboarding if you get the chance. The women (and girls, like the 12 year old from Thailand) are tough as.

We see grown men taking a while to get up off the court when they take a bump, these girls are throwing themselves down stairs and bouncing themselves off the concrete floor, and are straight back on their feet like it’s nothing
