It's weird to me that nobody has snatched that guy yet, his work on Team Germany is phenomenal and everybody saw it.
Then again he's 65, maybe he doesn't want to move any more.

He will step down after the Olympics and become the coach of Bayern Munich Basketball in the Euroleague.

I think he already is, the national team is just a summer gig
edit: no, they had Pablo Laso last year..

I remember thinking Dirk Bauermann was great coach, but he never really translated to club Basketball, his Germany with Dirk had its moments. Current coach also has incredible talent at his disposal.

Dirk Bauermann is a terrible coach.

Yeah, lol at Germany and US being on the same tier. They have already beat the German team and that was without Durant.

How is the center position weak when team USA has 3 of the 5 best centers. Other than Wemby and Joker, who is better than Embiid, Anthony, and Bam?

We barely beat them and needed LeBron's heroics to pull it off. The game could've easily gone either way. Talent wise, we're clearly ahead of them but we also were at the World Cup as well (despite a clearly worse and less balanced team). As we all know, that's hardly everything. Germany has familiarity, cohesiveness and very good coaching (ironically by a Canadian) going for them. Right now, they are in the same tier as we are until we prove otherwise.

Saying we were more talented than germany now and the world cup is like saying both Michael Jordan and Bronny James are better at basketball than me. Technically that is true, but think about how meaningless that statement is when the chasm is so big.

Instead of Kessler, Cam Johnson, Bobby Portis and Austin reaves, you have Tatum, Holiday and Embiid or maybe even Curry as the worst players on the olympic team. The German difference isn't even close to that with them now vs their world cup team.

That was not the point, but rather that better talent, even much better talent, is only one factor amongst many. The preparation game against Germany has shown that.

Yea Germany and Serbia are easily the most talented teams in Europe. If Jokic weren't a 3xMVP, it wouldn't even be that close in terms of talent.
I haven't seen Germany's coach do anything special tbh. Even his decision to leave Schroder in the game in year's quarterfinals almost proved very costly. He wasn't making any shots and was essentially hurting the team. While it was nice to see the coach not lose faith in his leader, it was still obvious that it was a huge gamble.

Preparation games and friendlies hardly ever show very much... especially with those veteran teams saving themselves for when it matters.

Cant watch this game, but checking box score, Greece with a strong start, early 10 point lead 16-6.

Greece hasn't even made a single three and are still torching Germany.

Greece is playing great on defense but no scoring once Giannis went to the bench. They need to get better with that.

Germany with good defense and offense in the 2nd quarter despite not shooting well from deep.

Better defense for Germany in the 2nd quarter. It was all paint shots in Greece’s 21 pt 1st quarter (except for 1 three) but they forced Greece to take more outside shots in the 2Q and limited to just 15 pts.

Already looking forward to that Canada-Germany SF tiff and i think that game will boil down to three-pt shooting.

And when Giannis was in it was always a triple team on the Bucks star. Greece better make those outside 3s off Giannis’ passes or it’s going to be an uglier second half for the Greeks.

That Schroeder charge draen on GA for foul 3 looked like a dead block to me. Slid in, moving. But Calathes feel for the game is so off at times, needed to see that ahead of time.
