They actually hit a jumpshot in the tournament. Like at least one. Tatum was so checked out that he resembled Wayoff P in his purest form.
If he had played more his reputation would habe suffered even more. Kerr actually protected him. Tatum can recharge his mind and be back to being a top15 player in the nba next season. That might still be enough to win another chip.
Ants never seen a shot he doesn’t like and was actively killing the flow of the offence for stretches throughout the tournament.
Being a top 15 player isn’t insult like you’re trying to make it out to be. Especially when you’ve accomplished more and won more than players in the top 5.
It really was not meant to be an insult. I just like pointing out that Tatum is not one of the best players in the league and for my taste too many Celtics fans try to push this agenda of him being on the same level as the best of the best in the NBA.
It is not enough for them to have one of the best teams (and the best las season). They desperately want to also have a true superstar on their team and get really antsy and aggressive when people point out the obvious that Tatum is not that kind of player.
I called him the most decorated waterboy of all time in context of these Olympics. And objectively that might really be true.
It wasn’t meant to be an insult, but that’s the way it was framed. Especially when you add comments like waterboy.
Most Celtics fans I speak to understand JT isn’t on the same level as guys like Joker, Giannis and Luka but he’s definitely not as bad as some people make him out to be.
Maybe some Celtics fans think he’s a top player because history has told us that you need one to be successful in this league. Like to or not the Celtics have been one of the most successful teams since Tatum entered the league.
Acting like homerism is something unique to the Celtics fanbase is incredibly disingenuous. But that’s not something new to Celtics dialogue.
I see a lot of people call for the super team title. Since when do we have superteams led by a top 15 player? There are teams in the league with multiple top 10 players that aren’t called superteams. The Celtics have some very good players that you would probably rank 15-50. There are many teams like this in the league, are they superteams?
If Tatum isn’t a top player and is closer to 15 than 10. Why is there so much pressure on him to win? Look back at the media throughout the season and the threads on here. People were calling him a failure for not winning by age 26.
There are multiple players in the consensus top 5 that have never been out of the second round. Who have also played on stacked teams with All Star and MVP teammates.
If the backlash against Tatum is because some people on the internet think he’s better than he is then I would say you’re probably going looking for it. Th
