Outdoor games

Post#1 » by Pachinko_ » Tue Sep 24, 2024 2:18 pm

Some European teams do it to honour historical venues or simply to give their fans a different experience.
This time it was the EL Champions turn to host one, and the Greeks brought out the big guns.
"Kallimarmaro" stadium in Athens is some 2,400 years old and is entirely made of marble from the ancient nearby quarries. It hosted the opening ceremony of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 and can easily sit 40,000 people, although it's known to host up to 80k people for big events of the past.

I happened to be in Athens, tickets were like $10, so I went.
Beautiful night, slightly chilly, no idea what the plan was if there was wind or rain, although the beautiful Greek summer typically goes strong throughout September. No food or drinks allowed because after all this is an actual ancient monument. No flares either, which was a big reason why last year's Partizan games in Serbia were so spectacular.

None of it stopped the 40k Greek fans from making as much noise as possible, and they ended up being the main attraction. The actual games were awful for some reason, nobody could buy a bucket, although most former NBA players like Cedi Osman, Pokusevski, Kendrick Nunn etc said they enjoyed the experience.

Some Lithuanian youtubers covered the event and uploaded a video

It was fun, different, players enjoyed it, fans loved it.
I'd go again :D

Never. To many element factors that could affect the game, IMO.

Exhibition would be OK.

The NHL has done it for years in regular season games and it's quite spectacular when the snow is falling. It works for NHL because it's a winter sport but obviously if the NBA does it, it'll have to be in a warm climate city.

It can't be played on Steve Rogers' behind because that butt is perfect and without fault.

Jokes aside, adding an uncontrolled environment as a factor would be interesting. Last year Miami went to Kansas City and because of the weather, they could barely function.

If certain games, shooters could only drive the ball because there's wind, then they would have to deal with it. Have a dome type field environment when rain/snow is blocked off so no one slips on the court, that's the only restriction.

Yeah plus the 'elements' would be the same for each team so all fair in my book.

for people who don't know about this classic
viewtopic.php?t=886428

i think NBA should be outdoor NBA, then players would have to adjust to factors like wind, crowd, and assfault. players like rafer alston would be best in this environment because he can adjust to the elementals. ithink best team would be magic because he knows how to play street ball. played like half man half amazing could then be NBA all stars and revenue would be better because how big is outdoor? can hold millions. NBA will benefit, and so will players and fans. and also you can bring pets to game because it's outdoor.

How big is outdoors?

Did we ever get an answer to that one?

I hope not. It would be cool once but you know once they do it they won’t stop until they run it into the ground like the NHL did
