The 49ers lead the NFL in time of possession at 34:37, which is 1:24 more than 2nd place Pittsburgh.
Last season (with you know how piloting the run game) the 49ers were 8th in the NFL in time of possession at 31:06.
Simple math: The 49ers have had the ball 3:31 more per game this season.
In other words, the 49er defense is getting more rest than any other team in the league and substantially more than last season.
Maybe if the defense could somehow manage not to be dreadful on 3rd downs (26th in the NFL at 46% conversion allowed rate) they would be able to rest all the more.
