Case in point -
The crazy thing, is the defense is a couple of bogus Pass Interference calls away from stealing that win away from the Vikings in spite of the offense. Allen Lazard dropped three or four passes, one directly leading to a pick-six, and the defense still managed to damn near shut down the Vikings in the second half.
It'll be sad to see Joe Douglas go down with the ship, but tying his fate to Saleh and Hackett is his own damned fault...Ulbrich's cool.
I think my issue with this play is, when you line up for a short yardage run up the middle like that, you typically run it under center, which gives the back a little bit more time to build up momentum. Running from the pistol like this, you can see it's almost like a draw play, where the back doesn't start until well after the ball is snapped, giving the line more time to get penetration as well as not having as much time to build speed, giving him less of a chance to power through
So it's bad design, but it's also bad execution. Watch Bates (I think) coming over to set the edge, you see he takes a side step towards the line, which gives Dallas Turner (I'm pretty sure that's who that is as well), who ran a 4.46 at 250 pounds, enough space to get the right angle. If Bates runs flat across the formation or even takes a step back as he's crossing, he would have had the angle
The hole is still clogged and the issue is more play design, but still. It's the finer details sometimes.
