Here goes a long post that no one will read.
What I think the Knicks should do rotation wise.
First off, I advocated for Precious to start so Knicks could run a jumbo lineup and it would preserve Hart for the bench, which I think is important, as Hart's ability to slot in at 4,3 or even 2 make him the ideal 6th or 7th man.
I'm less enamored of that now.
I'd start Deuce, or, believe it or not, Shamet. Yeah, pretty crazy mentioning Shamet, but read further.
There are several reasons for wanting to start Deuce at SG, or, if Thibs is dead set on him coming off the bench, Shamet.
#1 - The Knicks should play 5 out. Just embrace it.
#2 - Hart makes the most sense as the 1st sub, see above
#3 - OG. He has the offensive skills of Charles Oakley and that's not a compliment. NO WAY do I want OG and Hart sharing the floor for too many minutes.
So:
Brunson
Deuce
Bridges
OG
KAT
Sub in Hart for OG, keep subbing so there is always 4 shooters, Hart doesn't count as one of them.
After, the sub picture gets murky for me, because I'm not that smart but I'm also somewhat lazy.
I'd have the bench be:
Hart/Precious/Shamet/Kolek
I'd like to NEVER see Sims and Precious on the floor at the same time.
I'd rather not see too much of Hart and OG at the same time.
Not that thrilled with too much of KAT and Precious together either, though I get it will happen against teams like Orlando or Milwaukee.
So, lean into 5 out for the starting lineup.
Start Deuce, but he probably doesn't get true starter minutes. Maybe 28 mpg. Tops.
Brunson I have for 36-38 mpg. Kolek and his shooting and passing have the other 12. F*ck Payne.
I think Mikal is going to have to play 38 mpg, to break up Hart and OG as much as possible.
36 mpg for KAT, Precious can play 12 mpg at C, please not too many minutes at PF.
Precious and Hart shouldn't play together either, if possible.
Knicks should try to be 5 out in the starting lineup, mix the bench and starters so they are always 4 out when the starting lineup isn't together. Hart shouldn't be included as one of the guys who is "out" because he's not a reliable shooter.
Hart and OG are ultimately too offensively flawed to see too much time on the floor together.
Oh, and trade for Tre Murphy so Knicks can be 5 for longer stretches.
