Jalen Suggs as a PG will go very well. Sit him in a room watching, one, Derek Fisher clips all day. Because that kind of PG will go great with our All Star point forwards. And two, watching Dwyane Wade drives all day. Because Jalen Suggs has a special knack for drives even in half-court. We won’t go into the Playoffs again putting Suggs at 1 all of a sudden after a season of not doing it much. Now, it will look very good. That’s not to say you don’t be opportunistic with a star PG upgrade one day, but now it’s more of a position 1 and 2 opportunities instead of just 1.
Franz and Paolo will continue growing and excelling as point forwards. They are way too young to be even anywhere near their highest plateaus of gritty, experienced, cerebral playmaking. And yet they are already showing how quickly they will reach it. That’s not to say they both wouldn’t do very well with a on-ball type guard, but that guard has to definitely be very special or just as good off-ball (read, shooter).
The Magic are unpredictable and patiently slow/stubborn as a FO, but I’ll put some money down that with their smart contracts left and right, they might trade one center and one guard this season. And they’re not loaded with incoming picks, but at the same time they have all the picks they need for a blockbuster too.
JI might be starting center for many games and for most of the much more important playoffs. I think the Magic will try to get him to intimidate and patrol in the schemes more this year, somehow. Doesn’t mean he will play more than 20-26 MPG though or play every game.
Someone will surprise us a lot, a lot this season. It might be one of the more prime veterans, but man oh man do I think there’s one or two Magic youngsters who can explode this season too.
