Did Shai surpass Jayson Tatum last year

Post#1 » by juju14 » Sat Oct 26, 2024 5:29 pm

He was more efficient, led in stocks for Guards and had great playoffs while being 2nd in MVP. While Tatum left some to desire in the playoffs even tho he had all time teams and all time Spacing.
You think it will continue this season with Shai having better season?

Apparently SGA's one regular season that was better is enough.

People just don't like Boston. No. Of course he's not better than Tatum

My rule is the player needs two superior seasons. I dont think after 22-23 most considered SGA ahead of Tatum. But SGA put everything together and really seem to make a big jump last year. Also looking at advanced #s SGA was pretty good in 22-23 as well. In conclusion im fine with rating SGA ahead and have him 5th to Tatum's 6th but i think both players are trying to earn super star billing.

Did SGA pass Tatum in 2023?

SGA received 15 first place mvp votes last year, Tatum has zero for his career. Yeah SGA passed him.

SGA also didn't play with 4 All-Stars

I feel like Tatum's the board's favorite litmus test to how good X player is.. any ideas why?

Cause he has the most range out of any top 10 player as to how good he can look on any given night. Sometimes he looks mvp level, sometimes he looks top 20. So no matter who you want to compare him to, there’s a version of him that makes you right.

Shai is better at everything, he even surpassed Tatum on defense last season. Tatum just lucky he got drafted in a big market and played with stacked roster since he was drafted.

SGA had a better regular season but it wasn't a huge difference imo. SGA did get DPOY votes where Tatum did not and also placed higher in MVP voting.

In the playoffs Tatum put up more rebounds and the same assists per game but 5 fewer points per game. Tatum's also was noticeably less efficient shooting in the playoffs than the regular season, whereas SGA was more consistent in that regard.

So yeah Shai had a better regular season and his stats look better per game in the playoffs. But it was about half as many games.

Any team would be happy to have either player.

I'm trying to figure out who the best player is that the GB would agree Tatum is better than. A new thread every day asking if Tatum is better than x player and the answer is always no. This is heading to a thread next week asking if Tatum is better than Kyle Kuzma. I'll vote an early no just to kick off the discussion.

They're the same age. They were both rookies and 2nd year players at one point.

The OP asked a question and I gave a pretty clear answer, and also acknowledged that most people don't agree.

With a question like this there's many ways to look at it.

Has Shai surpassed Tatum career wise? No.

Would he beat Tatum one on one? I don't know but I give JT the edge because of size.

Is he more important to his team? Prolly about even imo.

Did he have a more efficient individual offensive RS last year? Yes.

Has he won anything? No.

I mean I don't know what SGA has done to earn his extremely high ranking among NBA fans and analysts. He's awesome though and I look forward to him getting even better.
