It really doesn't matter what Edey is doing right now, Memphis can find plenty of competent rotation level centers for a lower cost than Poeltl (and I like Poeltl quite a bit). e.g., Robert Williams should be available for some seconds, Nick Richards is probably available, Kessler would be available for the package you are proposing but he is paid way less, Goga will be available, etc.
Poeltl is better than Williams, Goga and Richards. Kessler will cost more since he's young and Ainge isn't selling cheap.
Toronto gave up what was consider a play in or lower pick. That's 12-20 range based on how they thought it would turn out. They aren't selling for anything less especially since he's on a better contract now.
I realize he is better, but my point was that Memphis has much better options than sending two firsts for Poeltl. If Toronto wants to hold onto Poeltl and lose him for nothing or just watch him age out on their team ... well, that would be par for the course for post championship Ujiri.
A first round pick isn't that valuable. Teams prefer high seconds rather than low first due to contract flexibility. The Grizz are competitive and want to get the best C they can while also developing Edey. Poeltl is a player that can help you win right away, and he would accept a bench role once Edey is ready to take over. Poeltl has experience playing on both good and rebuilding teams, that would make him a better fit than most attainable Cs
