Miami's also paying the tax this year with the repeater tax looming if they're in the tax in either of the next 2 seasons. The roster is probably just going to get worse the next 2 seasons.
Listening to a podcast recently, not only do non-tax teams not pay tax, they're getting possibly 16 to 18 million dollars check from the NBA for staying under the tax. Just looking at Miami's salary numbers, had Miami stayed under the tax this year (let Lowry's contract expire, kept their future 1st, maybe resigned Wright) they possibly have cost ownership nearly 60 million dollars this season. The FO is just throwing ownership's money out the window.
