Bad franchises always fail at rebuilding because they never time their trades right or embrace tanks by playing the kids. First of all, no difference making FA is going to choose POR so stop trying to appease agents by playing veterans. Second, getting a late, oftentimes conditional, 1st isn't worth it over developing young players and ascertaining whether that young player is worth investing more energy into going forward. Finally, you end up winning meaningless games which hurt your draft pick. It's just baffling how poorly run so many teams in the NBA are.
Henderson
Sharpe
Avdija
Camara
Clingan
should be their starting five. Sprinkle in Grant, Ayton, Williams and Simons 20 mpg off the bench to show teams looking for trades that they're healthy and embrace the tank. Starters should all be getting 28-30 minutes. If vets don't like it get them out of town before they become a locker room cancer.
Henderson is not going to develop and you won't have your answer about whether he can be part of the core going forward unless you give him the minutes so he can do so. At the end of the season they should know because they will have let him run the show and he should be giving enough flashes to trust him going forward. Or not. At which point you can safely add PG to your draft shopping list.
