So the undefeated team likely to pick last in the first round would rather keep that pick than get a player that can help put them over the top to win a chip this year.

Got it.

DFS is not putting any team over the top, I think that's the root of the misunderstanding here.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

They have the number of every team in the league and he will be moved at some point but probably not to the Cavs

Yep, have fun with those scraps.

lol

The Nets have a big war chest of draft assets already and it’s only going to increase in the coming months

No need to be bitter & petty here, its okay to disagree. Nets aren't obligated to trade DFS to Cavs and Cavs don't have to get DFS.

Petty, sure. Bitter? Nah. DFS is not a needle mover, and I'm willing to bet that you all will be disappointed with his return, if you even get one.

I think DFS moves the needle for plenty of contenders. A defensively versatile 3&D wing who is fantastic defensively and playable in the postseason, he does a lot for contenders out there. As an outsider, I think its the glaring need for Cavs because I consider him an obvious upgrade on Okoro & Dean Wade (its okay for you to disagree on that). Maybe we won't get much for him, the market dictates the price. But the proposals here are not the ones for us.

The Cavs are 16-1. They just have to remain healthy. Their team chemistry is just fine. They are not eager for any type of trade with anyone. They may not want to disrupt the team with a trade during the season. If the Cavs do anything, it might just wait until next summer. They are just waiting for Max Strus to return from an ankle injury. Teams with losing records will be calling the Cavs.

I understand this.

Many are shocked at their record. Yes, they will come down to Earth at some point. But, I agree. They should wait until the hot run wears off and then make a deal.

I love this thread because it is honestly cool to talk about a fat guy in the NBA. Georges Niang was easy to hate on but now I appreciate how he can even be in the NBA nevertheless dropping 20 points a game here and there on real NBA players. Can he run up and down the court more than a dozen times before he needs a timeout? No. But, when he is in he knows how to throw his body around and make the slimmer players fear for their lives.

Maybe its semantics a bit? I wouldn't call Ferrari Doe a needle mover, but also strongly agree that he's a guy who could come in and play 30 mpg+ in the playoffs for any number of contending teams. He defends multiple positions well. Not a stopper, but a good solid defender and he makes corner 3's and never doesn't anything he shouldn't be doing.

A team like Cleveland would benefit from a guy like that, but if their FO isn't interested like some of their fans here, other teams will.

And agree its hard to know what that value ends up being. But I'd give a protected first to get him back in Dallas for sure.

I agree with you. DFS would be a valuable addition to almost any team’s 8-man playoff rotation.

I think it only takes a 1st round swap to get him. Dallas would be a great fit.

I cannot see the Nets making this boneheaded trade. They do not get anything of value here. DFS > Maxi with only $4M in savings for the DFS and Maxi exchange for 2025 and the difference in draft pick might end up being like 4 spots at the back end of a draft. This trade does nothing for BK. Even if it was Top 10 protected in 2026 it would not be that much of a difference unless there was a catastrophic injury or if Kyrie or Luka demand out.

So the only fair deal that could be made would be DFS for Kleber and a Top 3 protected pick from DAL in 31. But, then the Nets have to wait 6 years to see where that pick might land and what value it might have? Logic would make you think it might be great. But, Luka might want to stay in Dallas his entire career even when they are very poor which even with Luka in 2031 it might still be a Top 15 team in the league. So, that pick is not that great either!

You're not getting potentially the 4th pick for DFS at this stage of his career unless the talent absolutely NOSE-DIVED after pick 3. A team wouldn't even do that as a SALARY DUMP...

This is the thing here. Cleveland is not that likely to be the top bidder for DFS simply because they aren't nearly as desperate for bodies in their rotation the way that a lot of other teams (i.e. Philly, Milwaukee, Denver) need at least one more guy. And DFS fits for everyone.

Sam Vecenie had an early trade targets podcast-- DFS (and Larry Nance Jr) were mentioned as targets for nearly every team they brought up, which means that if they're moved, the team that gets them will pay at least their asking price. Cleveland won't be able to quibble about protections on a 1st in 2031, the Nets are going to get a pick that conveys in the next two years or something else of value by 2026.
