It's an ignorant remark, though. Peripheral examination of the roster would reveal that. One player, even an ATG (which LaMelo is not) can accomplish only so much.

Why is it so hard for people to have a rational conversation about LaMelo?
Why is it so hard for people to understand that he pretty much missed the entirety of the second half of the past two seasons. Like why is the fact that the Hornets were terrible the past two years held against LaMelo when the reason they were terrible was because he was hurt, Along with other key players both years?
The last time he was healthy to finish out a season and the team around him was remotely healthy, the team won 43 games
In looking at this season, it doesn't take a lot of effort to understand that the Hornets right now are without five of their top 9 players in the rotation - Miles, Tre Mann, Mark Williams, Nick Richards and Grant Williams. and somehow Vasa Micic has Either completely forgotten how to play basketball, or is sabotaging in order to get waved and go back to Europe.
The current version of this team has never had a chance to play more than a couple of games together.
LaMelo has always been a very willing passer and has never been a selfish player. The green light he has right now is a combination of, this is what the coaching staff is asking him to do, A complete lack of healthy legit rotation Players outside of Brandon Miller.

Just to toss it out there, there haven't really been many seasons of 24+ FGA/g that has reflected a player with tons of help.

There have been 18 player-seasons of 24+ FGA/g in the three-point era. Kobe once, Ice Man twice, Harden once, Iverson 5x, 03 McGrady, 01 Stackhouse, 2017 Westbrook, Nique twice. Jordan four times (but only once in a title year).

Jordan and Harden's seasons (87 aside) are basically the only ones where you were looking at good teams while that happened.

It is generally the case that a player generally is neither asked nor permitted to shoot that much unless the team has no other choice. Or is Michael Jordan.

So yeah, I think Ball is kind of doing what's asked of him at the moment, and we'll see how the season progresses.
