Yeah, when he's open. We have a tough time generating open 3s in our offense, mainly because our primary ball handlers and options Scottie and RJ either have trouble breaking down defenses (Scottie) or are not good at finding teammates after getting into the lane and forcing switches (RJ).

If you compare his shot chart to last year, % of 3s at 15-7 seconds on the shot clock has gone down while % 7-0 seconds on the shot clock has gone up. His share of wide open 3s has also gone down.

This is why they are pushing for IQ to be on-ball as a distributor, even if all of us can see he is much better off-ball as a scorer. Scottie and RJ can't generate these shots for their teammates. IQ is the only one who has the skill-set resembling a player that could do so.

Thing about Davion that gets me is he looks bad as a backup. He seems to play more under control and with more defensive effort as a starter.

Not even looking into the stats. Shead is the guy I would rather invest minutes in.

I don't think Shead will be ready to be a full time backup next year. I'd try and sign him to a 2 year deal in the offseason to bridge the gap. Either until Shead is ready or if we draft someone in the 2025 or 2026 draft.

Depends on what the goal is next year, if it's another "let the chips fall" type of year, then just let him play backup whether he's ready or not. I'm not swayed for or against keeping him, I just don't think he's needed unless we're trying to win more than we lose, and I have a feeling that's not the goal next year.

If Shead is worth keeping around as a backup, might as well let him get to that sooner than later.

I can't imagine them tanking another year. I think getting a top 5 pick and then using the Pacers / Our picks as depth is likely the plan.

Depends on where our pick lands this year. If top 4 pick I think you are right. They will take a major step next year. If we end up falling to 8, for example, we may have to endure one more shite season.

Scottie sees him as a go-to man in the crunch. Just give him space!

Bingo.

This board needs a reality check on backups. Davion is a great defender and a bad offensive player - but that is what a backup is. IDK what people expect - we are not going to have 10 players who are plusses on both sides of the court.

26 years old, likely can be retained very cheap, and could be a guy you have in your system for 3-4 years after this. If you find something better or a guy like Shead takes a leap you move on. But until then, you don't just cut bait for no reason.

We finally have a bit of depth and people immediately want to bail on that depth!

Depth is a large reason why the last iteration of the team couldn't make the 2nd round.

If we want to draw parallels to last decade, we didn't move off of Vasquez or Lou Will immediately when it was obvious they were not long term pieces. Lou was just let go because he turned into a cancer, but we didn't move Vasquez until we got a really good offer back (OG/Norm) and even then, we brought in Cory Jo (a similarly flawed piece albeit in different ways) and brought in Delon (a much better prospect/player than Shead) in that off-season. And then Cory Jo was kept until FVV made him expendable.

Shead has not made anyone expendable yet. If that happens? Great. But it is poor management to just bleed talent (and Davion is at worst still a NBA rotation piece) so we can play a 2nd round rookie who is shooting 37% from the floor and overall struggling. Davion is having some struggles to - difference is one is doing it against starters and the other backups.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

That's sadly IF we manage to land a pick for a real impact player. Not guaranteed.

Pretty underrated on his PG skill, setting up Poeltl and others (stats does not tell). We shall see if Barnes would improve to his level, and think one step in setting up teammates.

He will need to improve his 3 point shooting, not sure if that has been a priority on the coaching staffs. As Barnes takes away the ball more, both Mitchell and Barrett suffer being shooters, and Barnes also needs the ball to have the spacing.

Davion's trade value probably is the highest this year being a cheap rental for other teams, and will fall once we extended him
