One of the old stats that I've only grown to appreciate this year is Adjusted Assist-to-Pass Percentage, which is the percentage of passes by a player that turn into an assist, secondary assist, or FT assist.
So JB has always been someone who passes way less relative to the passes he receives. It's just been that way on the team for years. And I just keep chalking it up to well, someone has to be that guy, he's a finisher, that's his role. Then we notice more and more of that playmaking leap (last season was already significant imo). I think I commented on this on another thread -- that compared to JT, JB's passes directly lead to assists while JT's passes lead more to the swing-swing ball movement variety.
So here's the stat...
Among 164 players that have played at least 10 games (min 25 mpg) this season, Jaylen is 6th (SIXTH!) in Adjusted Assist-to-Pass %, which coupled with the eye test, tells me that while he still doesn't pass as much as I personally would want, most of his passes are meaningful and get real opportunities for his teammates. ('Cause there's passing for passing sake, and that's not the type of team Joe built). We're not a "ball moving team" per se but when we do pass the ball, we get a good/great shot out of it. Like why pass the ball 7 or 8 times in a possession when you can get the same result with just 2 or 3 passes? (Sometimes even one pass, the type of possessions I and Scal hate lol.)
Anyway, he's just behind premier point guards like Ja, Trae, Curry, and Garland in that stat.
EDIT:
