Simmons makes $40.34 this season. So we need a higher outgoing salary in a legal trade -- that's either JT or JB. Not happening.
If Simmons is waived, he is eligible to be signed to the minimum in-season but not by above-apron teams since he was previously making a salary above the non-tax MLE.
It can’t even be JT because he’s ineligible to be traded this year after signing supermax. (Not that we ever would, I’m just saying it’s not even theoretically possible under the rules.)
We could only acquire Ben Simmons by trading Jaylen Brown for him. Which is as 0% probability as any trade imaginable. And, like you said, if Simmons is waived we can’t get him as a buyout because of 2nd apron rules. Whoever is betting this is truly throwing their cash away…
