The Knicks definitely gave him a legit chance and opportunity, unfortunately for them, they didn't give him a long enough contract to retain his bird rights.
I suppose there was an element of risk for them when they signed him up with his injury history, but unfortunately he became too good a player with them last season, especially during the playoffs which means they were priced out of re-signing him.
It's understandable why they gave him a short term deal with him though given all of Mitchell Robinson's rotten injury bad luck
