it's about a 15% bonus for all our guys on the minimum, not to mention the two-way guys

imagine your boss was like "there's this huge Christmas bonus we could maybe earn with one extra day's work, doing basically the same work we do every single day, but I don't think it's worth it"

I think the player incentives are fine. I just think there needs to be a team incentive. A tie-breaker or automatic HCA (no seeding change to still encourage a team to try the rest of the year so they dont face the Celtics in R1)

The Spidermen mirror image meme but it's Lu (sp?) Dort and AJ Green facing each other.

Why should a knockout tourney have more sway over HCA than the other 76 games?

Honestly, I view HCA more from a fan and money perspective. I think HCA is overrated as a competitive advantage. it gives more money to the owners and fans get possibly an extra game live, city gets the entertainment dollars.

That said, it is just a small advantage and would only be for a few series where HCA would be determined by the other 76 for 11+ of the 15 series so it still keeps the 76 games important. in reality if you applied it last year, the LAL would've got 1 extra home game and that is it. I don't think it throws out the other 76 games since the nuggets are still playing an inferior opponent and rewarded for their season while the Lakers sucked the second half and still have to play a tough 2 seed. Lakers just would've got a slight competitive advantage for having to fight for the cup

I think they match up poorly w/ Giannis & probably the Bucks. They have no natural 4 & their 5 has to guard Brook or they're getting bullied in the post.

Conversely, we have 2 guys who match up w/ Shai - Jackson & Green.

For the Thunder to win, 1 or more of 3 things need to happen - 1. force a lot of TO's to score in transition, 2. hope that the refs are calling foul grifts in their favor, 3. luck out that a strong 3 pt shooting team misses open shots after the paint is packed.

That SGA head flop is going to see all of our defenders in foil trouble.

It's a conundrum in a way, because if you want the Cup to be it's own thing, then making it officially give you an advantage for the Playoffs is a tacit admission that it's subordinate (when you really want it to be separate). I think I was the one here who first proposed that winning the cup should be first tie-breaker for the playoffs at minimum, but I think I'm kind of against that now. What the Cup needs is the weight of tradition and that just takes time and consistency. So, like, messing with the format, adding playoffs-based incentives: these things are actually bad for the Cup, because they don't allow it to take root as a worthy tournament unto itself.

If they are going to tinker, I'm almost of a mind to take it out of the regular season entirely and let G-League teams compete.
