it's about a 15% bonus for all our guys on the minimum, not to mention the two-way guys
imagine your boss was like "there's this huge Christmas bonus we could maybe earn with one extra day's work, doing basically the same work we do every single day, but I don't think it's worth it"
I think the player incentives are fine. I just think there needs to be a team incentive. A tie-breaker or automatic HCA (no seeding change to still encourage a team to try the rest of the year so they dont face the Celtics in R1)
Why should a knockout tourney have more sway over HCA than the other 76 games?
It's a conundrum in a way, because if you want the Cup to be it's own thing, then making it officially give you an advantage for the Playoffs is a tacit admission that it's subordinate (when you really want it to be separate). I think I was the one here who first proposed that winning the cup should be first tie-breaker for the playoffs at minimum, but I think I'm kind of against that now. What the Cup needs is the weight of tradition and that just takes time and consistency. So, like, messing with the format, adding playoffs-based incentives: these things are actually bad for the Cup, because they don't allow it to take root as a worthy tournament unto itself.
If they are going to tinker, I'm almost of a mind to take it out of the regular season entirely and let G-League teams compete.
