Think people by now should know not to trust Jon Heyman.

We have prospect depth at the position? This is a gamble seeing how his bat fell off a cliff last season and never returned.

Meh. He was ass anyway.

I seriously had no idea Trevino was still on this team. Did Cashman also sign him for 7 years?

Trevino's bat fell off a cliff a month and a half into his All-Star season, but his glove kept him in high regard. Then 2 seasons ago he tore a ligament in his wrist in Spring Training and tried to play through it and then he dug himself a hole at the bottom of that cliff.KnicksGadfly wrote:Don't think Trevino was better, but yea...this was just a salary dump. I'd keep an eye on JC Escarra. He did well in AAA as a lefty bat and pretty much made Narvaez expendable last season.knicks94 wrote:MrDollarBills wrote:

Final year of arbitration.
With 109 strikeouts in 66 2/3 innings, Cruz’s 14.72 K/9 ratio was the Majors’ highest among pitchers with at least 50 innings, and his 37.8% strikeout rate ranked third.
Over three big league seasons with the Reds, Cruz has gone 4-11 with a 4.52 ERA in 141 games (seven starts). Since 2023, his 185 strikeouts as a reliever are fifth most in the Majors, trailing only Bryan Abreu (203), Aroldis Chapman (201), Josh Hader (190) and Tanner Scott (188).
Cruz figures to provide the Yanks with another big arm at the back of the bullpen, acquired just days after the club brought in closer Devin Williams in a swap with the Brewers.

Cashman has once again made a trade at the fringes of the roster and ended up with a piece that shouldn't have been available in work at the fringes of the roster. Cruz is the perfect lump of clay to hand to this organization - he's got some of the most dependable analytics for a relief pitcher who hasn't yet become a star, and he's controllable for 4 more years. All for his backup catcher that is more name than production at this point.

Montgomery was still young and already solid with like a mid rotation ceiling. I know you could never have enough pitching, but Stroman was not good last year and is a very expensive 6th starter.
Either way, Cards said no.

I could never diminish the value of a starting pitcher. Yes, Stroman wasn't good in the second half last season, but we need as much pitching depth as possible. When you look at our rotation everyone is injury prone, and there are going to be guys going on the IL from April to September.
