That's why I also hate how some (very few) fans blamed OG for signing a big contract.
The people who should be held accountable are the FOs who manage the books and build the rosters.
Phil Jackson is the one who did us dirty with the NTC. He could have had the foresight to let him go if the NTC was such a deal-breaker for Melo. Giving him that power was a stupid executive decision. But Melo had every right to exercise it once given.
Main one that gets me is Hartenstein. People think he should have taken a 50% annual pay cut to stay here. I’m sure he liked playing here but nobody should reasonably expected to walk away from that kind of money. Plus his new team is also good so it’s not like he took the money from some losing organization just to get paid and not compete
Agreed. Can't hate him for that
My gut says our FO decided his health was going to be fragile going forward so they were OK with it even if they were limited by salary rules on what they could offer. If they felt that way the reasoning could have been there was already enough health drama around Mitch, no reason to have more of that. With iHart out of the line-up in OKC I've wondered if our medical staff knew something OKC did not
I know he was dealing with Achilles soreness throughout his time with the Knicks that Thibs pushed to the limit in January after Mitch went down but he played all 82 in year 1 with the Knicks and 75 of 82 in year 2. He had a completely unrelated non-displaced fracture to his hand that did not require surgery in the preseason but has since returned and looks comfortable playing 30+ minutes a game right now which seems pretty good for a 7 footer.
It's just hard for me to imagine they wouldn't want to bring iHart back if they could have offered him more money. He seems to be thriving in OKC and I definitely wish we still had him. I would have just simply moved Mitch for whatever I could get if I didn't want the health drama of both Mitch and iHart.
