Darko had OG, Barnes, Pascal and Yak..and got us at 12-19 on his way to his current 32-78 (yes including a lot of injuries now and tanking the last 20 games of last season).
This is not the G-League, anybody that says that he was just hired to develop players is lying to her/himself with Bobby going so aggressively after Lillard.
More than anyone else he needs the players back from injuries to demonstrate if there is any good head coaching ability in him. He has shown NONE so far. Zero!
Players are not going to take an unproven coach seriously if that coach accumulates over 100 losses in only 2 seasons.
1. I think one could argue that Darko is maximizing the talent on the roster this season considering how competitive we have been in virtually every game despite the injury problems you acknowledge we have faced. The team has been short-handed and is playing mostly young guys and castoffs and we have been in almost every game.
2. Both Nurse and Doc won with a ridiculous bevy of talent. Nurse had one of the most stacked rosters of all time. Doc had three hall of famers including the guy who was the best shooter of all time back then and probably the most versatile defender of all time and a super clutch iso scorer. Back to Nurse, he had Lowry, Danny Green, Kawhi, Siakam, Gasol, Ibaka, FVV, Powell, and OG in his nine man rotation. That’s five sure fire hall of famers, six all stars, a DPOY, two potential DPOYs, a guy who might/should win DPOY (who didn’t even play in the playoffs), and a sixth man candidate. And they all could shoot and play defence. Absolutely loaded team. Nurse’s offence was give it to Kawhi or run some version of pnr. He didn’t even coach offence with that squad. All that to say, Nurse and Doc didn’t have to do much to maximize all that talent. Those teams were hungry veterans who were ready to win.
3. OG, Barnes, Pascal, and Yak aren’t as good of a team as you think. Where’s the spacing?
4. Raptors have one of the hardest, if not the hardest playing team in the league. And they execute the schemes they’re given. That’s not a roster of guys who don’t take their coach seriously.
I know you think Darko is a horrible coach, and maybe he is, but you have to draw upon better arguments to support that idea. But what you’re bringing to the table right now doesn’t stack up.
What’s more likely is that Darko is a middle of the pack coach who is good at developing guys and getting them to execute and play hard. What seems to be an issue thus far is late game tactics. He’s similar to Casey in that regard and I don’t think we’d call Casey a horrible coach, but a good one with limitations. Let’s remember, Casey also sucked when he started out in Minnesota but he grew. Darko has shown signs of growth this year. Hopefully when we’re able to field a competitive roster he’ll be able to experience more high stakes situations that can force even more growth.
What are you even talking about?!"better argument to stack up" when we are freaking 1-12 on the road like we are some kind of an expansion team(0-13 had Zion or Ingram played, we lost by 38 last year down there with those 2 under the same horrible headcoach) ..The man inherited 2 All-Stars and a DPOY type that has changed the Knicks and lead them to 12-19
further more about your point#3: Your first thought goes to offense, mine goes to defense: We would have been the best defensive team in the league with Udoka! A juggernaut with all that length and mobility. and for your offense, you have 2xall-Stars, 2x20pts scorers both unselfish passers with a 3&D in OG and a master rim finisher in Yak...A good Coach would have maximized that.
And this season, all the talk about defense in the preseason and currently rated 24 out of 30, last year 26: The year prior under Nurse 11 while Udoka turned the Rockets from 29 to 10 to 2 with 3 players barely breaking 22 in their starting 5
The rockets defence has nothing to do with their personnel? Lol
