During the basic era of free agency this strategy worked. During this new era free agency is basically dead and you ain’t getting into any serious trade convos until you got multiple young players and at least 3-5 1st to toss around. The OKC pick has held this team hostage for way too many years. Would seem fitting that we finish at the back end of the lottery and don’t pay out 2025 giving OKC unprotected 2026 and Charlotte 2028.

Pop is coming towards the end too so why not try and see if Butler can elevate them to higher levels.

Jimmy and CP3 kissing and making up for the sake of Wemby and Pop, eh

The strategy is the find and develop cheap undrafteds and plug and play them with their core.

And hide them by playing zone defense

Everyone just focusing on Butler’s requested teams in Warriors and Suns but there will be teams not listed dealing with the Heat in the shadows that actually have the proper pieces and cap means to actually give Butler what he wants. Milwaukee came out of no where for “Miami Only” Dame. Not one insider mentioned the 3 way trade that included Bucks and Boston. I’m looking at the Spurs and Rockets having all the requirements to really get something done.

Yes Butler and Paul will have to play nice lol. A lot of their beef stems from competitive banter.

The Spurs aren't on the clock, Golden State is so maybe something comes from that. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Butler isn't traded and Miami offers a much smaller extension so they can say they tried so don't be mad at us and ultimately want/let him walk to get them under the tax.

Why would the owner want to continue not only paying the tax on this team but also the repeater tax while teams who aren't in the tax are also getting 14-20 million dollar checks from the teams that are in the tax? I'd just keep in mind that it's highly expected the payroll for this team will be reduced a solid amount for the next couple years, even with the cap going up ~10% (12-16 mil) each year.

You keep saying this about the Spurs but yet Paul and Barnes are playing big minutes and Pop isn’t getting any younger. They have expendable pieces and picks to make a splashy move that still won’t hurt there future. Butler could also be a great influence on Stephon Castle’s game. Butler also cool with the Jones brothers so if he can’t play with Tyus on the Suns he can play with Tre on the Spurs.

Would much prefer Spurs Keldon Johnson over Dillon Brooks. Keldon would be the much better future player and lockerroom fit with the current group.

Pretty funny that Miami has been "failing" at team building for years to the tune of being top 2 in the NBA in playoff wins over the past 5 years, including being in 2 of the last 5 finals. What does that say about the efficacy of the rest of the NBA in team building?

IMO the Heat wait to sign and trade Butler this offseason. Jimmy can't get paid and get to the teams he wants to play for without a trade. I doubt he's going the scraps route.

Yup. This guy is just an insufferable Heat hater. If you've ever heard his show on Sirius NBA radio...you'd turn it off quickly. Takes shots at the Heat nonstop.....considers the whole organization to be a fluke based on weather, tax-free state, and LeBron.
