What Should The Lakers Next Move Be?

Post#1 » by nzahir » Sun Dec 29, 2024 11:40 pm

What trade do you guys think the Lakers should make after the DFS trade?

I feel like the DFS deal takes us out of the race for a #3 guy since DLO cold have been a nice expiring.

Unless we are moving Rui and are interested in BI or Lavine. I don't see those deals anymore, but let me know if you think that is the right idea

The most glaring need is a backup C

I was hoping we got back Sharpe in that deal instead of Shake, but we didnt have enough w/o moving a 29 1st and that wouldnt be worth it

Some names that I can think or that pop up

Centers:
Rw3
Kessler
Vuc
Myles Turner
Jakob
Isaiah Stewart
Jonas V

Low end names like Alex Len, Nick Richards, Kevon Looney

Then its a guard off the bench. Preferably a more physical one than AR or even Christie

Lonzo:
Bruce Brown:
Sexton:
Marcs Smart:
Nembhard:

I wish we got a higher end wing than DFS, but feels like that was our main move on the wings.

Dillon Brooks and Wiggins were my ideal wings if one of those teams made a Butler move, but that seems done.

Deandre Hunter is all that is left that I can think of a reasonable role guy, but wouldnt make sense after a DFS deal

I think a Jared Vanderbilt for Timelord trade could be interesting. In a lot of ways it’s a roster balancing trade for each side. Portland might object to the extra 2 years in Vando’s deal, but he’s 2 years younger and up until last year has been durable. Timelord is 20 MPG backup who’s always hurt, but we have seen him have a big impact when healthy come playoff time. The money also works nicely. Valancunis can also make sense financially in a Vando swap. The other Cs either make too much money or will cost too much (Kessler) unless you’re doing a Rui for Stewart swap. But I think Rui fits better than Vando if your bringing in a C.

With the guard off the bench, if you’re looking for a point of attack defender, not sure there is a Gabe Vincent upgrade out there. If your looking for playmaking, Jordan Clarkson could be interesting.

If they can get a scoring punch guard off the bench and a slight upgrade at bench center that would really round up their team.
Both guys can be pretty flawed players, just need to fill those roles and be able to play 20+ mpg.

PG: Reaves (36) | G (12)
SG: Christie (30) | G (18)
SF: DFS (36) | Knecht (12)
PF: LeBron (36) | Davis (12)
C : Davis (24) | C (24)

Lakers could go for a C that can play 24 minutes in playoffs. They'd need to be able to shoot and stretch floor.
Lakers could go for G that can play 20-30 minutes in playoffs. They'd need to be able to defend and playmake.

Biggest tradeable salaries: Rui 17m, Vando 10.7m, Vincent 11m

Shake should definitely be in the Lakers' rotation.

He's been better than Russell this year...

I think Vuc is the only realistic big in OP. I'd add Jalen Smith.

The C needs to be able hit 3s to stretch floor a bit to play with Davis, which would be required if they want to play more than 10mpg in playoffs. Myles too expensive and Stewart has bad blood with team.

Bring in Lonnie Walker for a tryout and then see what you can do leading to the deadline

JV from WIzards works for Vanderbilt. Not perfect for either team but Wiz can take on that salary and Lakers get an upgrade that can give Davis some rest and upgrade the bench. Would cost a protected 1st as Vanderbilt with his salary and injury status is a bit on the negative worth side in the deal. Wiz can throw back a 2nd or two.

In regards to the backup big, Nick Richards for Hayes, JHS and a couple of seconds would do just fine

I'd love to add another volume guard/wing scorer, but only having the firsts would mean we need to go somewhat big

I believe Lakers offered VIncent and SRPs for Val. I think the DFS move is a signal that they've moved on from Val.

If they give up an FRP for a big then it will be a big that can stretch the floor so that Davis can play 15-20 mpg a night with them.

They don't need a 5, that just encourages them to play AD out of his natural position more.

What they really need is another 3&D guy, but better than DFS. Since that's probably unobtainable, their biggest need is the 2023 version of Gabe Vincent. Someone like DiVancenzo off the bench would be great too, but obviously he's not obtainable.

We do need an upgrade on Hayes, but yeah we shouldn’t be spending our firsts on a big

DDV isn’t exactly balling out for Minny, from memory? They could maybe look to move on from him I guess

Lakers don’t have anything Wolves want. Plus the deal would be very tricky with 2nd apron.

Zero interest for POR.

If he was half the price of his contract, maybe rather use the pics for Kessler :) I'm so high on Kessler LOL

I would fo hard after Kessler for JHS, Hayes and a 1st.
Would balance out entire frontcourt without giving up guys that actually play.
Maybe add a min guy such as Dennis Smith Jr, Lonnie Walker or Markelle Fultz.

Kessler for JHS/Hayes/1st
Lately Gabe has actually looked somewhat like the version the had hoped for when they signed him, so perhaps it would be wise to see how a rotation of Reaves-Christie with Gabe-Shake as backups work.

Could consider a guy like Olynyk?
