GT #32: Bullets @ Pelicans 8 PM (MonSportsNet/980 AM) [1/3/25]

Post#1 » by FAH1223 » Thu Jan 2, 2025 8:32 pm

YOUR Washington Bullets are 6-25!!

The boys rang in the New Year with a convincing victory over the 9th place Bulls on Wednesday night. Jordan Poole's play has leveled up, the rookies look like they belong, and Brian Keefe seems to be hitting the right buttons with the Bullets being 3-4 in their last 7.

But let's be clear. Winning is not a priority but a few Ws are good for morale.

Friday night the Bullets play a squad they probably didn't envision competing with for the Cooper Flagg sweepstakes. The Pelicans are 5-29. They have been, once again, RAVAGED by injury. DeJounte Murray got hurt on opening night, Zion Williamson got hurt early on, Brandon Ingram more recently, CJ MccCollum has missed time, Jose Alvarado is out, and it goes on and on throughout the roster.

Rumors are that everyone on the Pelicans roster is available for trade outside of Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, and Yves Missi.

Zion and Ingram remain out but the rest of the roster seems to be getting healthy. The Pels had a big win against the Clippers earlier this week but are coming off a loss in Miami to the HEAT.

The two rookie centers, Alex Sarr and Yves Missi, meet for the first time. Right after both have been named Rookie of the Month by the NBA in their respective conferences.

Looks like Bilal still out with his non-covid sickness.

We are 7.5 point underdogs which seems excessive based on our recent play.

The Pels had so many injuries it was ridiculous. Some of their guys have been coming back lately although Ingram and Zion are obviously still out.

If they had the option to just cut Zion and avoid paying out his contract i wonder if they would do it.

I don’t have the details but I thought i heard the Pelicans do have the ability to get out of Zion’s contract. I don’t think they would though. Even if they go for the tank they could trade any players with value around the league over age 25 or so, tank and still keep Zion on the chance he makes it back. They’d have to pay somebody to reach the salary floor
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

Missi dominating Sarr on the boards so far. Too strong for him.

Pelicans starting the game with some energy. Wizards need to box out.

Good half, only quibble is the turnovers. Not shooting a lot of 3s tonight, but good shooting from 2 and Bogdon/Poole getting to the line often. We might “pass” Charlotte, Utah, and Toronto if not careful.

Kispert is such a liability. Gets targeted by the opposition again and again defensively. And we gave this bum a 4 year extension…

Agree. In theory a decent tradable extension but he has been terrible. Would have to attach draft pick to get off that contract.

On the positive side, Kuz had an efficient game offensively. Though he looked disinterested on D…

Never say that, don't even think it. Draft picks good, players over 26 bad. We are tanking, nothing else matters.

I think the coaches have gotten on Kuzma about his chucking. In the last 3 games he has taken 20 shots total.

They do have that option. It is a great contract for the Pels.

I knew it wasn't entirely guaranteed but wasn't aware of the details.

I only knew from the content of a trade rumor. The notion that the Pels could be at $117M in payroll next year makes them a competitor to us and Brooklyn to take on bad contracts for draft assets. Spurs, Pistons and Bulls would also be competitors in this way.

'25 is going to be an "interesting" year...
