100%…Tyus as a backup makes a lot more sense. Problem is his one year charity deal that he signed, ostensibly, for a starting role on a cash-strapped contender. I would assume with an understanding that he’d get the “real” contract this summer…he wouldn’t start in ORL and either would Grayson (and 2 yrs at 18m is too much for that)
2/18 is too much for what?
Backup 3&D SG on a roster with more pressing needs. Yes, he would not bump KCP or Suggs…Grayson is very good, but ORL needs a playmaker for the second unit.
Not only that, but every team in the league knows Phoenix is not in a position of power when dealing. They have EVERYTHING to lose and Orlando has vested interest in them being bad next year so not sure if they would willingly help.
Grayson might be worth a 1st from a contender with a bad contract attached in a vacuum but don’t see him getting that either, all things considered.
Cole is not a cancer that is degrading the team to a level that he’s becoming a distraction. It’s actually the opposite, he’s actually a high morale player, fan favorite and is an expiring next season and has single handily helped Orlando win some tough games during this rough injury riddled stretch.
I would even venture to say that Cole provides more currently than what Grayson could give this team just due to team needs and positional flexibility.
