No, what I’m saying is that it’s smart to preemptively request to speak to with certain potential candidates so that if your short list doesn’t pan out for whatever reason, you can quickly pivot to the guys that you already have permission to talk to.
Poles may have a list of 4-5 guys that he’s REALLY interested in. But given the number of vacancies, anything could happen and if it does, the search has to continue. I’m other words, requesting permission to speak to a candidate doesn’t instantly make them a top priority.
Other than McCarthy, the Bears don't need "permission" to interview the other candidates.
Teams cant stop you from taking a promotion of any kind such as QB coach to offensive coordinator (you have to call plays) or Coordinator to head coach. But to get that interview you need the permission.
