Their reluctance to go all-in on a trade for a star to pair with curry, their "swing for the fences" in multiple draft selecting rawer players like wiseman/kuminga with theoretical higher ceiling rather than more ready players or trading the picks, they are all clear indications they have lost faith in steph AHEAD OF TIME and have been more concerned with the post-curry era than to maximize his timeline.
this is the original sin on which fans (seem to) disagree.
I belong to the group that firmly believe the second timeline lacob & co is so concerned about starts only when steph is gone. not a single moment before.
some people still can't seem to grasp this: you have once in a lifetime player (steph is that edge) who is still balling at high level, you do whatever it takes to maximize the window. because, as you said, someday it will be gone and the franchise will likely be back to be basement dwellers for a long time. in fact, you contradict yourself at the end of your post.
I totally agree with this, to me the blame lies with the FO. Bob set the table poorly for Dunleavy and Dunleavy so far has done nothing. The main thing I'm tired of hearing is that everything is Steve's fault. The roster is pretty barren at this point, shuffling rotations doesn't fix that.
I will always be bummed that after winning in '22 that we didn't empty our clip at trying for #5. Especially after failing in '23, sigh. I thought we'd do something with CP3's contract, but they didn't and it was basically over once we moved on from the salary slot. Right away Jrue Holiday was available, but we just kept CP3. Then later other opportunities, and again nothing.

I get you can blame Lacob to some extent, but the GM needs to control the conversations properly. Dunleavy and Bob should have been pushing hard to go all in on Curry, and they clearly have not. It's the GM's job to control the direction of the team, and we have no actual evidence that Lacob has told everyone "Hey, don't make any trades I don't see Curry doing anything".
