Stearns doesn’t like these longterm contracts for pitchers. Minter might be safer pick over Scott, who’s had control issues in the past. I think that the other issue is that we’re up against most severe luxury tax where each contract will be doubled due to the penalty.
Perhaps it's my own pinstripe bias, but I still think even a short term AAV of around $30 million to Montas and Holmes is a lot riskier than Burnes's $35 million.
I get not wanting to give Tanner Scott a huge contract, especially a relief pitcher, but damn, the upside for the Dodgers was absolutely enormous and widens the gap between the Dodgers and everyone else. Yankees were never in on him despite needing a lefty and Scott's contract night mean they won't be re-signing Williams.
I think we can both agree to fuq the Dodgers.
I'm probably the only Yankees fan here that doesn't hate the Mets (sorry fellas). We're in different leagues, let alone different divisions. I never quite bought into the rivalry unless it was a Subway Series and even then I don't hate you guys. I don't even hate you guys now that you have Soto.
But yeah,
The Mets are nowhere near them right now. I think we’re a wild card contender at best. Lots of question marks abound. Like last season, lots of things have to go right for us to make the playoffs.
I also think that Stearns is making a mess of the Alonso situation for no apparent reason. The two sides are only $10M apart. WTF?
That's seriously it? Just pay him. Even if you guys sign VGJ next offseason, like I said before move Alonso to third or DH.
