To me, it's a combination of the two.
To this day, I'm befuddled as to why the team wasn't given the chance to run it back. Even if the first half of the season didn't go as planned, that trade with New York is very likely to be on the table at the deadline.

The Knicks only upped their offer because of the Robinson injury. If he is healthy, the trade is off the table.
